I've always had catarrh problems. Even had my adenoids removed as a small child. Never found a remedy, but i noticed that dairy products/ crisps and fizzy drinks seem to make it worse. Probably a few other things too, that i haven't clocked.
I don't think my Charlie habit and helped it either. Lol
Apart from the Charlie, that might be a histamine problem.
I suffer from blocked sinuses all the time (nothing in there, just inflamed sinuses), I used to get hayfever bad when I was young but that seemed to go away. Unfortunately, it spread out over the year rather than disappearing. It's no longer seasonal but probably something like allergic rhinitis. My dad has something similar and goes to the doctors for it so it might be genetic.
I'm never far from a bottle of Oxymetazoline nose drops (supposed to be a spray but it never works on the cheap bottles). I wake up breathing through my mouth without this. This can go on for ages and is exhausting when I can't get proper sleep due to sinuses clamping shut.
I use a basic anti-histamine and Oxymetazoline. I have some pseudoephidrine based tablets too but I don't take them often. I can sleep while taking it but some people can't. That gets rid of the blocked sinuses anyway.
Back to histamines; cheese (especially Feta), red wine, and fermented products are going to be high in natural histamines and will set allergies off. I had a sneezing bout in a pub years ago and a friend said "That's the hops..." I thought it was an old wife's tale. Looked it up a couple of years ago and hops are near the top of the list for histamines LOL.
I treat it with the nose spray (can't stay asleep without it) and antihistamines as I can't give up dairy products or fermented things
