Sat at the pc I could hear this ticking noise, turned out it was my DM800se.
Nothing on the display but the blue led was flashing in rhythm with the ticking. Tried a smaller 2A psu and all was well.
I decided to open the dreambox and do some testing with the dodgy psu. Removing the hard drive brought the display back to life but would not boot past the dream media and the sim logos.
I then also removed the fan and tuner which allowed it to start booting.
The problem was the reservoir capacitor on the 12v output. Slightly swollen but only read 97uf instead of 1000uf, rated at 16v. The case is easily opened, I use a small G-clamp to slightly compress the upper or lower half, insert a small flat screwdriver and it easily pops open. Fix time was around 15 minutes.
