OK, so you've got your technomate, you've loaded the latest patch, and you've read all about card sharing. You've done a bit of searching on the subject, read a few things, and now you've got even more questions than when you started.
I'll try my best to keep this simple and short, and will ammend when needed or if something is pointed out to me.
OK, theres 2 main flavours of getting your technomate connected to a server, but both require an internet connection.
If you have a 6800 USB super or a 6900 USB super then you can run an ethernet CAT5 cable direct from your receiver to your router and youre good to go
for ALL other models (1000, 5000usb, 5000usb super series) youll need to connect to your computers COM port with a null modem cable, and have something like WSP (windows sharing pack) installed. this can be downloaded by clicking here.
Now before any of this will work, you need a server to connect to, but first please read the threads here and here, especially page 7, post 64, before you go running around and offering anyone who will offer you a connection all of your personal details just for a few more channels.
Now to find a server, use one of the many internet search engines, there are forums out there that specialise in introducing people looking for servers to people who run servers. Some of these servers are free and may only be online for a few hours offering a hand full of channels, while others have 24/7 support networks, offer a multitude of different packages, and charge a subscription fee. A lot of the subscription based ones will also give a 48 hour test account, some of these charge just a couple of euros for you to see if its what you are after, some will give it for free.
But before you decide to part with hard earned cash, you'd like to try a few free servers, right? Again, google or another search engine is your best freind, and try all the different word combinations you can think of. Free card server, free card sharing, card share trial, etc, etc.
When you start to find servers, youll notice that they have different 'protocols' (or protokol for a lot of them), for this to work on a technomate you MUST have one that uses NewcamD protocol, if you dont, then it wont work.
So you've found a free server to try out, but you've also read so much about free servers being dead, so how will you know if your receiver is setup properly? if the information is entered into your receiver or computer properly? or if the server even exists?
Lets begin
