Flashing vusolo v1 with new images is that possible ?

I have seen in some old posts of Mr Ferret that is possible to update V1 Solo2 clone to be able to run unpatched original images.
My friend ask me if i can flash his vuplus solo2 v1 with the latest openpli image or other image of course. Is this update process still valide and will allow me to run the latest openpli 4.0 or other in this stb.
