If that doesn't work you could try a transformer with a USB out (much like an iPod or Kindle charger) +/- a USB extension lead. Just make sure the transformer's output is at least 5v, but no more than 500mA (0.5A).

That should read output is 5V and more then 500mA. As long as voltage is correct the device will draw as many amps as required so make sure the PSU meets minimum required which for USB should be 500mA.

just had a mess about with the usb trying different ways to stick them in and it has finally worked
all good now can see the usb/hard drive and play films on the media player
