Sadly my beloved desire hd failed on me, looks like mainboard has finally said goodbye - she has been given me loads of connectivity problems for a while especially with bt and wifi. Constant freeze ups, and finally one last freeze up and failure to boot, even with abd fastboot demon
So i went down to carphone warehouse with the mind to purchase a sensation or a sgs2.
I was taken in by the htc one x - i had already read loads on the phone and was put off by the lack of sd card slot, non replaceable battery, and micro sim card.
Im personally glad i was able to play with one in the store, ive already played with the samsung galaxy s2, whilst i liked the phone i hated touch wiz - ive removed all trace of it on my galaxy tab but really love the sense look and feel.
I then played with the sensation which tbh felt excatly like my old desire hd just a little bit quicker, but looked ancient next to the one x - it really didnt feel like i was upgrading from my 2 year old phone.
After a big ouch i parted with my cash and left the store with my sim free one x (i wont have contracts anymore - too expensive - you end up paying way over the odds for the phone).
WHat can i say, what a blooming good phone, the four (5) cores make android a real pleasure, ics is so well thought out and pretty. Ive had three people now with iphones look at the phone and said that the experiace on the one x is 100x better than the iphone.
Side by side with the samsung galaxy s2 the screen on the htc out shines the sammy, the colours are so vibrant and clear, i always thought the samsung s2 wouldnt ever be beaten in screen quality and now ive been proven wrong.
Sense is a nicer affair as well, there seems to be a lot less bloat than previous versions, and it seems to run fluidly now - where on my desire hd it would stop and think about things every now and then.
The camera is amazing, instant open and you can also take a pic instantly as well, the thing that really impresses me with the camera is the ablity to record video and also take still shots at the same time - really unique for a phone and will come in handy especially when the wife wants me to film the kids birthday and expects me to also take pics at the same time.
One major problem which looks like its due to be fixed with a firmware update is the battery, i nuked the battery in under 7 hours, but to be fair that was the first charge and htc have already reconised there is a problem with the battery life, the very reason why i originally was unhappy with a non removable cell.
Another bug bear i have is video playback, htc says that its capable of playing divx and xvid out of the box, well i cannot for the life of me get avi contained divx and xvid to play, mobo sorts this problem out but it should do it out of the box, im hoping an future update solves this.
If your looking at getting anew phone and have the samsung galaxy s2 on the radar - spend that few quid extra and at least have a look at the one x, its a much better phone, this may change when the s3 comes out though, but then the new htc one x2 might come along and so on....
