hey all

i've acquired a petrol strimmer (2 stroke me thinks)

and its not got a head or guard on it

its a B&Q Performance Petrol Brush Cutter

24cc

model number - PRO24CCBCA

Cutting width

Blade - 230mm
String - 380mm

now does anyone know where i could pick up the required gear for this, also i think there should be another handle for it aswell

it was getting thrown out but its perfectly useable, infact its never been used but the parts are missing lol!!

also what brand of 2 stroke oil do you good folks reccomend?

TIa

Hi Mate
As im not familiar with B&Q strimmers ( would not last me 5 mins) , i dont know if the spindle that the head fits on to is a standards type.
It is a square peg with a thread on top, then its pretty much standard.
You just need to measure the peg and order a head accordingly.
Your best bet is to go to a local hire shop, that hires strimmers and no doubt will sell the heads.
Or a Garden centre, or Local lawn mower dealer.
These people aere experts and will usually be very helpful.
It depends wether you want a standard Head that you manually lengthen the line or tap and go autofeed head.
The auto feed works as it says and you simply tap the sprung base on the ground while you spin the head and it feeds out automatically!
Srimmer heads dont vary in quality that much, but srtimmer line does!
You need to know the diameter of the line in your head and match it.
I use Oregon or Stihl ( the best).
The line is also round or has a flat cutting edge on it (like star line).
One actually cuts and the other just snaps the grass blades.
With a good quality line i can strim Grass that smoooth that it just blends in without strim lines.
Also depends upon the skill of the operator!
Mow on to your Guard:
You can buy generic ones easy enough, some have a metal cutting blade that cuts the line as it feeds others dont.
You didnt say wether your strimmer has a bent botton end (angled) shaft or a straight shaft?
I would imagine its only a light weight strimmer , so would only need a single handle ( possible to be used with a single shoulder strap to take some of the weight .
Now your 2 stroke oil .
I personally only use one and thats Stihl 2 stroke oil in my Chainsaws, strimmers, blowers, Pole pruners etc.
It smokes less than the cheap stuff and tends to foul up the spark plugs less.
Over the years i have tried loads and it pays to use the best you can afford.
Stihl equipment deffinately runs best on its own brand of oil.
Mix at a ratio of 50/1
The cheap stuff often needs to be mixed at 25/1
Hope this helps and if i have then please tip the scales
Regards
Stihl 260

I have come up with an idea for your handle .
Have looked at the proper ones and it would cost to much!!!!!!!!!
I have often made or fabricated items that i could not buy, so going down the fabrication and modication road you will need the following:
Some handlebars, either off an old push bike (or just a section of pipe), a pipe bender, a clamp to fix it to your strimmer shaft and some foam pipe insulation.
If you can bend the Handlebars up at the ends you have created a bull horn shape ( just like the pro strimmers).
Just mount this at a point where its comfortable to use and it feels balanced with the weight of the engine.
Use the foam pipe insulation to cut down the vibration from the trimmer and use tape or cable ties to attach the foam.
You could rig up a throttle cable and attach a trigger to the handle to give greater control.
Just an idea!
