BBC discusses multi-stream with telewest

The BBC explained today why they are unable to offer multi-stream services for the Martell Cognac Grand National to Telewest viewers - despite such services being available on digital satellite and digital terrestrial platforms.

A spokesman at BBCi explained: "We aim to offer multi-stream services wherever possible. Digital satellite and Freeview have, for quite some time now, had the technical infrastructures in place that allow us to offer multi-stream services, and create templates from these services. The templates mean that if an interactive opportunity arises, as with the Grand National, we can turn something around quickly and easily.

"As Telewest has only recently started to offer multi-stream, there are no such templates in existence. We are currently building these for the platform, so that we can offer Telewest viewers a comparable service to digital satellite and Freeview, but there was not enough time to create a bespoke service for the Grand National between the opportunity arising and the event itself."
