Amiko Alien SHD-8900 Beginners Tutorial

Hello, here is a tutorial for anyone who has recently bought an Amiko Alien SHD-8900 and is unsure how to flash an Enigma2 image to it and get it up and running.

The download contains everything for a basic setup, including a couple of movies explaining how to use FTP program provided.

Please leave any comments, both good and bad, to help anyone else who may use it to avoid difficulties.

Cheers.

Should this not be under all other receivers mate and not european satellites?

After you have downloaded Arthur Daleys excellent guide and got the pdf. I feel the following points will help complete newbies even more as these were the points i tripped up on:)

Just a few bits added by me which should help people even more:)

You can find the ip address of the box by pushing MENU/SETUP/SYSTEM/NETWORK/ADAPTER SETTINGS/ then it will be on the left hand side of the page..........exit out when you have made a note of it(push the red button)...Once you are logged into the box via ftp then...

Open the 02 Satellites XML Transfer folder thats included in the main download.Open the location file and make note of the location and ftp the satallites file over to your box to the location mentioned before........

REBOOT BOX>>>>>>

Then add a channel Bouquet normally using rats latest one which is here http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/24261...nition-14.html.

Easiest way of added the bouquet is to open it in dreambox edit. Download DreamboxEdit

Install in and then open it.

Go into options and enter in the details ...the ip address of your box...the user name (root) and the password (HDMU) notice the capitals.

Then open and navigate to where the downloaded file is of rats bouquet. You will normally need to extract the rar before doing this. Then click on ftp and send files to box. DONE

REBOOT BOX

Seeing as the box now has a bouquet added you can skip the scanning stage below but its there for any trouble shooting. YOU DO HOW EVER HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE TUNER SETUP!
After the tuner setup stage you should have all FTA channels.

Obviously add these in at the correct places:)

Please note the version of oscam will change all the time and i think the current one is oscam8100, normally you will just install the latest one given to you through the plugins function

Now go to the picons folder in the original download and again go to the location listed and copy the whole picon folder over in this directory using your ftp program.

This should now give you all FTA channels and everything else if you have the details.

Thanks go to Rat of DigitalWorldz for use of his bouquet lists and picons and HDMU for their Amiko Alien Enigma2 image.

I believe Arthur Daley may do a cross epg guide and hard drive pvr funtion.

But thanks to the man him self for the main gist of this guide and taking the time to make the videos etc.

Took me two minutes following his guide as all the files are there in one go.

Between both of us and the all the links and imformation within 5 minutes you should be flashed and up and running.

Any questions please posts away as there are other less active forum members that seem to take for ever to reply to any posts or PM;s....................

One of us will try and do a pvr and cross epg guide as this is the next stage.....

With this guide it transforms this box into a winner:)

Its a shame there is not much support for it as i feel it has a lot more to give:)

Hello, it would appear that you have to sign up to Youtube to view these??? If possible make them viewable without this?

In answer to your Crossepg...does this mean you have got your hard disk mounted and crossepg saved on it or are you using the boxes ram to hold the epg data?

no im just using the usb stick thats formatted with the image on:D............................cross epg automatically saw it...........

i cant even get into menu now.........

push menu and it just sats on the first icon that shows.

Ill try and find public links some how

edit try that now

There have been an update or two to the image used in the tut. It might pay to give this newer one a go and see if it helps...

Download links for HDMU_1521_E2.zip - Mirrorcreator - Upload files to multiple hosts

Actually, I think I had this video fault too, only shows up when menu is visible on TV screen? If so try changing your video settings from 60hz back down to 50hz, eg. 1080i @ 50hz and not 1080i @ 60hz. Hope it is just that :S

I thought it would be that but it won't let change left to right in the menu: (

Yes, made another tut that shows how to set it up using your pc/laptop, as some images don't do what they are supposed to do very well ;)

Print out and read a couple of times before trying, and don't go selecting the wrong drive by mistake. You have been warned.

If you choose the wrong drive then you might erase your system drive and have to re-install your operating system.

Why use two or more devices if one can do it all without problems?

As other wise the hard drive spins up everyone you change channel as it has the picons on it

Good point. Anyway, I have mine as in the tut...copied to the boxes flash ram. There is ample room for it, especially for a one satellite setup.

How about the epg? Is there also room ?

can i brick it by flashing picons and epg to flash memory?

Normally there is an item under the main menu for "Information", check this for the "Box Info" and it should give you a run down of how much memory is being used, as well as how much memory is left. If it is almost full then you may have to offload some of the files onto a flash disk or hard drive.

only had a little go..................didnt think you could?
