a customer phoned me, was an old telly any good to me, otherwise itll be going on a skip, as its gradually gotten worse over time, and today finally packed in. i ask a few questions, its a 42" LG plasma that has sound but no picture

ive only ever dealt with 2 plasma sets before, so wonder if its worth messing with, but as this is a customer who has always come to me, and all her family for years, i say ill get rid for her

go over, and see theyve replaced it already, so get it into the van, just unloaded it, laid it flat ready to take the back off, and can see 2 swollen caps through holes in the back plate straight away

out with the screwdriver :proud:

ill keep you informed

backs off, and a quick look tells me that 7 3300µf 10v electrolytics have bitten the dust, and ive got none here

so will order some in, and let you know :) i can see this one being another cash generator special though tbh ;)

new caps are here, put them in, turned it on, and

nothing lol

have to have another look about inside it now, i was so hoping it would be that easy lol

Did you get this one fixed dude?
My bro has a skip yard and its amazing how many large screens go into skips and are dumped. Loads of screens get smashed. There must be some profit in disassembly of plasmas for parts, even if they can't easily be fixed? What do you do with this one if you can't get it working? What advice for the next step? :)

i know theres a short circuit on the X-sustain board, but its having the time to trace it to the fault.

i picked up one of those compost recycling bins from the local recycling yard last month, and they had hundreds of TVs, and about 60 flatscreens there, i asked what happens to them, and he said theyre shipped off for recycling, followed by 'they get smashed up' so i asked about taking the flat ones and i would recycle internal boards, and what was left would be split into glass, metal, plastic and the small electronics for WEEE disposal

he pointed out a cctv camera, and said that if anyone is caught taking TVs OUT of the yard, theyre fired, and noone else is allowed to take them either

as i look just in this room, theres 2 42" and 3 32", that dont include what ive got in the cupboard and the attic lol, ive been so busy the last month or so, i just havent had the time to look at them

just re-read you post, yes m8, theres money in parts, just look at ebay

dont worrk about the tv make or model number, its the board number that sells it as theyre interchangeable, but if he comes accross any 42" plasmas, im after a board lol
