I have finally managed to fix my DM800 clone glitching on all HD channels... No intermittent glitches, or just 'watchable' channels... 100% glitch free!

A colleague of mine and my cousin have also got Dm800 clones and they also suffered glitching on the usual channels, but these are now also working 100% glitch free. So 3 boxes that had issues, are now all fixed (all be it they fixed there's a little while ago)

Now funnily enough, their fixes that solved the glitching differed to mine, so below i will list several things which you should attempt to try and fix any glitching you may have.

Now you will notice that on your HD channels that glitch, your SNR will fluctuate a bit (or alot) and the goal is to stabilize this... My channels that used to glitch are now stable at around 61%

Cooling:
Now many people have additional cooling solutions like this and have reported success... you can pick something up from ebay for a few quid or if youre feeling adventurous, DIY!

On the other hand the complete opposite works for others (this worked for my cousin) you want to get the box warm. To warm up the box leave the box on overnight on a HD channel. what did it for my cousin was the installation of a HDD - make sure the HDD is constantly on (some images allow the disk to goto sleep - disable this) as constant spinning should warm things up. If he put a USB fan over the top of the tuner, you can literally see the picture get worse over 5 min or so! after leaving the box off (not standby) for an hour to cool down, it would take about the same time to warm up again!

Sat Setup:
Too many variables to cover them all but i will briefly go over the main points.
- 20db Inline amp... this did nothing for me, but many users have reported success by installing one
- Offset you LNB a few degrees... just twist the LNB left or right unill the image gets better on screen (you may need a 2nd person to help, i.e sit infront of the tv) This did work for me, but was not a solution i could use, as i use a motor and as a result of offsetting the LNB it could not pick up other sats
- Other things to consider, dish size, Coax cable length, f-connector to LNB, do not use things like joiners or squishy things.
- Get/Use a decent PSU... original ones cost around £15-20 or use one from a dm500 if you have a spare lying around! Original DM800 tuners use 12v 2A psu's!

The Clonebox/Tuner itself:
- Cap Fix - use a 16v/1000uf (got mine here) pics here & here
- Change tone amplitude of tuner. Telnet to your box, and enter the following command... this should show you what your box is currently on.
Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.
The to change it enter:
Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.
Where the 'x' is, enter a value from 1 to 10... start at 1 and work your way up untill one works (if it works). Then save it to /etc/init.d/bootup so it will execute at startup.

There may be one or two little fixes which i have left out, but feel free to comment on what worked for you.

Also try a combination of things, as it took me a long time to finally sort it all out. I tried pretty much everything and nothing happened. I then did the cap fix, and although the glitching was better, it was not perfect. after the cap fix, cooling made it better, but then finally the telnet commands made it perfect!

Mix and match the fixes, would be interesting to see what works with what tuners. Mine was Rev. K - cousins is new L3 (dont know about my colleague but bought around same time as mine so revj/k but will ask tomorrow)

I've got the L3 tuner and it's not too bad, just the occasional glitch, what did you set your tone amplitude to mate, mine is at 7 at the moment, also waiting on a in-line amp as most of my SNR are about 50/55 on hd channels and about 60/65 on sd channels.

Mine is currently set at 2... anything above 3 will result in minor glitches again. Obviously try the whole scale (1-10) as results between boxes may vary!

what about the mods making this a sticky for a wee while, at least until people have had time to try some of these fixes and there is some feedback for the success or failure of these fixes.

Got my in-line amp today and what a fecking load of shit these things are, was getting SNR between 50/55 on hd channels and 60/65 on sd channels, now it's 45 on hd and 50 on sd, I thought these things were meant to pull the signal not weaken it, for anyone thinking of trying them I would say forget it, I've read more complaining about them than actually having any success, their not much to buy but a load of crap. :Angryfire

I had the same problem, and the amp never helped me.

I have a static sky dish and a dm800, but dont think there's power to the amp to make it work, anyone know how I could do this please.

thanks

Sorry mate, haven't a clue how the amp gets power, probably what's up with mine, there must be some setting on the box or the image that sends power to the lnb, maybe someone with knowledge of the motorised dishes would know the answer.

power is sent to the lnb and amp via the cable feed by the box itself.
you shouldnt need anything else.
amps are a bit hit and miss.

works for some, doesn't for others.

An inline amp is powered the same way as the lnb is as has been said from the receiver.

Installing one of these will make things worse tho as you will be overloading the system and there will be nothing wrong with your signal in the first place unless your dish is out of alignment//poor cabling etc(inline amps wont help this either),,,these units really only help in countries who are just off the satellite footprint and also have a massive cable run length but even then it can still make matters worse with satellite signals.

Dont waste your money on these as it will completely unbalance the noise to ratio signals you receive from your dish.

ive not attempted the cap fix, however i gave the other fix a go. not much difference in the frequency of glitches. what i did find is that the lenghth of glitch is shorter.

well the inline amp worked for me the signal got worse but the freezing stoped and as been sound ever since

:roflmao: thats it m8, bang on.

ive got to say tho, it has made a wee bit of a difference. when the glitches are coming thick and fast i still have to switch over. still not convinced its all the box. i think my isp is piss poor. vermin media 20meg (allegedly)

you isp will have nothing to do with it.
even 56k dial up should be enough to recieve a share.
if your that concerned do a speed test.

try taking the box to one of your mates house.
might be your router as well.
im still pretty confident though that it will have very little to do with your bb connection.
recieving shares is peanuts work for any internet line.

will it work with a mobile dongle say three or o2 if so how would you set this up and how much credit you think it would take to receive all the share.
thanks
