as you can see, I have started to Remove the rear floor panel with luck later to day this will be out and i can start to Repair the damaged areas

try to remove the panel by drilling out the spot welds then u can spot weld it back using mig, drill new panel in same place

Every time I've seen this kind of repair the job was done much in the same way as the op is doing. Basically splitting the material and the spot welds. Do you get good results by drilling and welding? Is it as structurally sound or is it of similar strength and just easier? Would it be puddle welding? Sorry for all the questions but I love this stuff.

Don't look in this thread too often and was gutted that this thread was so new. Was hoping to see the start and finish pictures :)
Guess I'll have to follow it. Good luck

this has not been a good day on the land rover been a right c*** of a job after taking out the floor, i just happened to look in the hole and saw that the seals have gone on both sides of the car where the body mounts are,,which is a mot fail

will have to take the seal covers of tomorrow and see how bad the rust is ,with a bit of luck we will be able to just box round the rear part of the seals

this might be the end of the land rover

if we have to replace the seals then i feel this job might come to a end as this is just one step to far..lol

is there any part on a f**** land rover that do not rust

here is the pic of the land rover with the rear floor removed

One question , is it worth it ??

from what i can see on ebay and autotrader yes it is

so the land rover was free and the cost of the metal sheets we are welding back in place is free ,the only cost to us so far is for the welding wire ,which is not a lot

i am having a great time with my dad doing this and in the end he will have a cheap 4x4 with full mot

next job ...lmao

not sure if i like the floor might cut it all out and weld it in place might look better then just having it rest on top like that ,had a mate come up who is a mot dude and he says say so far it all look fine to him ,,so that has made me a bit happy about it ,i have not done this much welding on any car b4 this ,so i am sure that something is not going to pass the mot

looks good m8
keep it up

I'd of took the floor right to the edges to make it look neater, not sure as it's ages since I welded anything for a MOT but sure you have to weld both sides ;) Underneath as well as top.

to do list

1 swivel joint o/s
2 new rear brake pipes
3 front brake shoes
4 rubber bushes for rear shocks
5 weld the rest of the rear floor

i have been thinking the same thing Dutcho about not doing a lap joint as i am sure you would have to weld underneath this would be a pain in the bum as the chassis would get in the way of me welding it

so i am thinking the way round this would be to do a butt joint bit more work in having to make sure it all lines up

i have been told that with a lap joint as long as the mot man can see the weld he will pass it on the inside and not having to welding it underneath ,would be nice if someone could tell me for sure if this is the case or not
