Well our loyal washing machine has finally had it after a good number of years.

Wife suggested we look out for one while the sales are on.

Was hoping there would be a few people here that have bought a washing machine in recent times, that could recommend a few good models to go for.

Don't want (need) a tumble drier but one that will deal with being used everyday.

Thanks for reading!

HOTPOINT AQ9L29I/V all the way mate..

bought it for the wifey last month and she had a surprise for me.. lol..

£400 but its amazing and very quite..

Things to think about.

Most machines nowadays are cold fill only, this gives them aa rating, however this can increase the wash time tremendously.
I used to have a washer that was hot and cold fill, it would do a 40 degree quick wash in 30 mins.
Changed it for a Zanussi AA rated which is cold fill only and it takes 2 hours per wash.

What spin speed do you want?
If you don't have a dryer I suggest variable up to 1600 rpm.
Variable because, when washing towels you need 1600 rpm to remove as much water as possible, but when you are spinning delicates 800 rpm is adequate, any faster can cause unwanted creasing.

Drum size?

The industry for years has sized washing machiens thus.
To space required to wash 1 kg of washing is 10 litres therefore a 60 litre drum will wash 6 kg of washing.
The marketing people have now decided that the space required to wash 1kg of washing is now only 8 litres therfore a 60 litre drum will now wash 7.5kg of washing.
Therefore when comparing always compare drum size in litres.

Top models are, in ascending order
Miele
Bosch
Electrolux
Zanussi
Hoover
Hotpoint
Indesit
etc etc

Hope this helps

I wouldn't buy anything else other than a Miele, yes they are a few quid more but will last the test of time, and come top in the Which tests.

I got one (well the mrs did) came with a 5 year guarantee for free so worked out cheaper than the extra cover you need when buying the cheaper makes.

Think it was from John Lewis.

I'm in the Miele camp too. You really can't buy better.

Dont buy a Samsung there Expensive and a total utter pile of shit,IF i had spent another 200 quid I could of been sitting pretty with a Miele...........................never mind

I,ve spoken to loads of people and Miele is the washing machine to have IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT and that seems to be the problem,Its that old saying you get what you pay for

i think for the money hotpoints wins ,i know the Miele is great but i think the cost of them marks them down ,i had a hotpoint for 15 years and only got a new one as the wife got a hole new kitchens and it did not go with it and yes i did get a new hotpoint

use to deliver and install washing machines as part of my job

miele are best but expensive

next in line are bosch / AEG

keep away from most of the rest or expect 3 - 4 yr life expectancy

indeshit are the worst, next are zanussi, hotpoint

See we have a Bosch and its shit, its one made in Germany too not Spain!!
We had an Indesit and it lasted for like 7 years never missed a beat but decided to buy a new one spare cash etc and now stuck with the Bosch had them out around 4 times to it! in 4 years.

Just to add my bit - go for Miele or Bosch.

My parents had Hotpoint and it kep breaking and when they decided to finally replace it with a new one, that broke after a few weeks aswell! They bought Miele and although it was expensive, in the long run it was well worth it and also less headache (bringing washing to launderette, ringing engineer to book appt and booking day off etc).

We have an AEG and the mrs reckons it the best machine she has ever owned.
not the cheapest, but came top under Mielle along with Bosch.
Time delay allows for washing at night on Economy 7 and most programs can be time reduced if needed.
One major selling point for us was its almost silent in operation!
Also it leaves washing clean, even on a cold wash.
We only use Ariel washing gel and put in my work clothes ( at this time of year filthy) on a cold wash to see.
They came out perfectly clean!
Also has a child lock if you have young children.
