Well, I got a 3 rrod 360 from a guy at work. Ordered and fitted x-clamp pro. Worked for an hour or 2 then went bye bye. Tried overheating gpu by disconnecting fans. That was a couple of hours fix at best. With nothing to lose i've just baked it in the oven covering everything bar the cpu and gpu with towels and foil. I've just taken it out and am letting it cool right now.

If it's fucked then never mind, I got it free and did what I could. Warranty was shot too. Oven bake was last resort.

Towel off, no blown caps and nothings melted

The oven was preheated to 230oC which is the highest my fan oven will go so hopefully it's done something. Left in to bake for 8-9 mins. I was getting very anxious as it got towards the 9 minute mark. Towel is damp to the touch as well.

I'll let you know. Tut was on Llama site and on youtube so I thought nothing to lose give it a go.

I'll have a brew, watch a bit of Jezzer and put it back together. Been cooling for about 20-30 mins now.

For anyone interested I used the following pieces of quality items:

Black duct tape (it doesn't melt but kind of bubbles slightly).
1 large towel cut up into pieces.
1 tea towel.
Aluminium foil.

Smoke rises from out the top of the oven door so make sure there's lot's of ventilation and it smells too. Don't bottle it after a few mins. I take no responsability for any fucks ups should anyone else try it.

i would have changed the paste by looking at the pics!!!

least it works, for now!!!

I left the paste on whilst baking and wiped it off after and reapplied some ceramic thermal paste (the white stuff).

I did. I changed paste 2 or 3 times as the heatsinks have been on and off all weekend trying to get it to work. Applied Team Xectuter x-clamp pro, tried overheating the gpu by leaving fan off. Reads loads of tut's and got no where which is why I tried the oven baking as a last resort. I was getting a mixture of 3 red lights and e74.

ah right, didnt no you changed them, but atleast its working now eh!!

Only thing since baking is that the usb ports at the bottom of the console no longer line up properly? They are slightly raised. USB still goes in okay but it's a bit tight. Wonder if it's anything to do with the rubber things that come with the TXPro kit? I read the board warps over time with use which is what causes the gpu to break proper contact with the board.

Better get rid of any evidence before the missus gets back.

Dunno if this is any help, but I have recently come across GPU reballing. Here is a video of reballing in action: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQeanpujmuM]YouTube - Reballing x box 360[/ame]

Maybe you could get yours done locally or learn how to do it yourself

I'm getting a couple reballed local to me. He's only charging a tenner so thought that was reasonble and would prob last a lot longer :)

reminds me of the time when i done mine in the oven couple of years back....then forgot all about it:Yikes:

cue the misses shouting dogs abuse at me, and the kitchen full of black smoke, took weeks for the smell to disappear

happy days:proud:

I rang my missus last nite from work she said the oven was smelling funny while doing tea and she found a piece of duct tape still stuck to the fan cover at the back of the oven. Lol. I denied everything of course.

did you pre-heat the oven lol
