I just got caught with the freezing on boot after updating ... the feed status was green so thought id be ok but it did pop up saying its an old image and it may not boot properly . There were 63 updates and the status was green ?
I'm using Openatv 5.3 and as far as I'm aware its October or November image. I have been updating weekly for a while and only now have the problem .
Is there any reason to update or indeed any reason not to update even if its green status ?

Thanks

It's a personal thing I would say.

If you're not having any problems and are happy with it then leave it.

If you're having problems or like to constantly keep up2date with latest image then update.

I don't understand why if my box is updated regularly why I got the frozen boot even though the feed status was green .

don't do a OTA update I did last week on my H2S and box wouldn't boot up afterwards

Yes thst was because the feed status was at amber ... now the feed status is green but I still got the non booting box .
I have been updating mine at least once a week since ive had it and not a problem until now.

mine was on green , everything went thru with a successful updated once it rebooted, box was stuck on boot

There was a change to busybox package which meant that the update process fails to complete fully.

Will there be any way of knowing when itll be safe to update ?
I like to keep mine updated .... don't know why really but I d like to update it lol

It is the same issue that affected OpenVix and OpenBlackHole too. Very odd issue that some people were affected and others were not even though using the same receiver.

In answer to your question, you cant tell.
You an do the following: Save your settings in software management. Flash latest image, restore settings. You can then update as normal.

It only affects changes between the version of busybox. Once you are on image with newer version, you will be fine performing an online software update.

As a side note, it is always a good idea to keep a working image on a USB flash drive. If thing go pair shaped and you are not at home, someone can always flash the receiver and get it going.

So can I restore the box using the latest openatv nightly build then restore the back up from my settings I had before ? I have a back up of 5.3 with ABM , sly q skin and all my other settings etc ?
I don't know if that would work or not ?

Process has to be

Create settings backup
Flash new image
Restore settings
Install Plugins/skins not on server.
