Hi - We had the above box fitted by a fella about 6 plus weeks ago. Have told him that the box freezes and also we have issues with the recording system which shows a recording has been done but we cannot get them to play Back. Help please? (He has made Countless promises to return and still hasnt!)
Recording 'thingy' is a 2.5" Sata External case. Purchased that on Ebay and Seller recommended you guys.

does it freeze on free channels as well as pay per view channels?

then its most likley a server issue, assuming your internet connection is good.

as for recording, you need to format the drive and convert to ext4

Simple answer to channels freezing is....
over subscribed rubbish.
There is nothing you can do to fix the freezing as its an issue from your provider.
From the sounds of it the seller has probably no excess to a server and is just out to make a quick buck.

There should be no issues with recordings if HDD if it's formatted to EXT4 and mounted to box. Then set your recording/timeshift/EPG to HDD.

I am completely clueless as to what any of that even means . Thats why we got a (seeingly useless) man in!

it wasn't a man you got in. It was a fooking crook!!!
can you press....
menu
setup
Vix
then mount manager.

What does it say?

(providing your running openVIX)

Hi. I get to set up
Options are then "
Video
Audio
Recordings and timeshift
Usage and GUI
EPG
service searching
Parental contr
CrossEPG

Sounds like openATV image.
Im not up to speed with openATV as I use openVIX.

If you can find the option or some members guide you to where options are on openATV to find out if your HDD is mounted properly and formatted to EXT4.
Hopefully that will fix recording issue but the freezing issue is the fault of the person you got the box of.

ask the guy for a refund, better to setup your own box fromscratch.
thay way you'll have an incline of what to do when things go wrong...

Only trouble with name and shame as you see on other forums is other server providers/sellers will register under a new name and just start to bad mouth other providers,I would do as IANB says and send him a link so he can look for future issues with the guy

I would first rule out problems your end. Too many times I see people blaming their suppliers when its simple things like WiFi, internet bandwidth being maxed out, homeplugs, busy network, rubbish routers etc.
I have my box on its own subnet with bandwidth control enabled on the router and priority given to the box. I also have a fibre internet connection which helps. Until I did the above, I had 'freezing' on channels cos all internet devices in the house (phones, tablets, PCs, torrents) were consuming my bandwidth leaving little for the box.

If using IPAB tv (ATV image)
Press red button, then 7 for setup.
press 2 to initalise hard drive,
Select drive and press ok ( warning, this will wipe all recordings off drive)
This may take anything from a few
seconds to a few minutes. Then exit.
Press 3 for swap file, Green Button (Create), OK Button to select the drive to create the swap file on. Select the size of swap disk – 256mb,
Press OK Button – You will see a message being displayed to "Wait please while creating swapfile” This should take no more than a few minutes.
press Red Button (Activate) , Yellow Button (Autostart)• Exit Button > Exit Button > Exit Button - This will return you to TV.
You MUST now reboot your box for the drive to be registered correctly and for the swap file
to work. The correct way to reboot is: Menu > Standby / Restart > Restart (Do not select Restart GUI as we want a full reboot).
