fire hazzard

the fuse is in the plug to protect the flex from damage,if the fuse is bypassed then there's the possibility of fire due to fact that on a uk ring main it is protected with a 32 amp fuse,a 0.75 flex is not capable of carrying 32 amp.

my mates white zgemma has a funny shaped plug on it, its a smaller plug than his other ones on tv/dvd ect, might tell him to change it after reading some of these posts, cheers

I dont trust any off the boxs,i have a dreambox 500 and a skybox f3, i allways unplug them and will unplug any others i might get. im not a safety nut i leave the tv and subbed box plugged in just dont trust these boxs that we play with. saying that i did trust the old dbox2 dont know why.

Remember, if you do replace (rather than re-plug) the mains lead, DESTROY the old one. Otherwise it may end up in a drawer and get re-used at a later date on equipment without internal fuse.

This video shows an extreme example of what can happen to dodgy cables. It does go on a bit....:grayyawn:

Note though that this took less than 30A to instigate. So it is possible on any 30A ring main. Scary stuff.

Great Video what made me laugh was the part where he put out an 'Electrical' fire with 'Water'

All the Zgemma's I've bought ever from Air Digital either come with the standard 2 pin figure 8 and some with the 2 pin figure 8 an a 3 pin clip in 2 to 3 pin adapter. I've never bought one that has a 3 pin euro plug on it.

I change the adapters fuse to a smaller amp, were are you buying these boxes with a dodgy 3 pin euro plug on them ? love to know

I've just checked the stock mains lead (fig 8) that comes with the Technomate TM5402- Whilst it's not as bad as the rogues above, it certainly does not comply with reg's. 13A fuse is a bit naughty IMO and a magnet is very happy to stick to the fig 8 part. :NoNo:

yeah but trev who are selling Zgemma's with euro plugs on them ? I never order them with euro plugs , I either use the adapters or whip the plug of and replace with a uk plug and a 3amp fuse.

I think this is another scaremongering tactic , I was going to sounds like a "Chinese whisper" but even the chinese aren't stupid enough to spread a daft rumour like that,

give me strength

My newly acquired box has this plug set up ... is it ok ??

yes i have many 2 pin that slide into the 3 pin plug once screw is loose, just make sure its a 3 or 5 amp max fuse used.
many users force 2 pin plug into 3 pin socket or shaver socket, not recommended for safety reasons.

The recent Zgemmm H2S I purchased for a fmaily member had a 2 pin euro plug with a UK 2 - 3Pin convertor.
The original Zgemma H1 that I use myself I've had now for 18 months, I cant remember which type of power lead it came with, I'll check in the box, I never used the lead that came with the box Im using an official SKY HD Box figure of 8 lead, as it was already in place and I couldnt be bothered to move the Tv stand :)

But I wouldn't be surprised if these were indeed scaremongering stories. When Zgemma came to market they were a game changer, other retailers were charging 3 times the money for a dual tuner reciever and were most unhappy... it's at bout this time these rumours and false stories about zgemmas surfaced...

i.e: Constant claims that they are clones, poor hardware, dangerous etc etc.. These more than likely all originated from disgruntled retailers onf other brands that could not compete on price and lost market share to Zgemma.

These same retailers have now been forced to release their own budget devices as have lost so much market share. For the end consumer new competition to the market is a great thing. it brings prices down and increases choice.
