I recently acquired an Xbox, now i know its modded as there are 3 switches attached
under the controller port 1 with wires going in through the air vent..
What do i need to know in using this console? As the title states i am a complete Xbox Virgin, i've never even turned one on (pun intended). Any guidance will be helpful, thanks.

What screen do you get when you boot it ? Xecuter was a popular mod chip and it could be that but you still need a custom dash loaded to get the benefits of the mod chip. TBH, you may need to open it to find which chip is fitted. Then look up the instructions.

dont be too hasty with that 360 or do any dash updates as you could get the box banned from xboxlive with certain mods, try and get into the console and take a picture of whats installed on the motherboard, could be a number of things but most likely jtag hack which allows you to run unsigned code on the 360

its not a 360 and not hooked upto the net
to be honest i can't get my head round it
so i'll just try to sell it if it's actually worth anything

if not a 360 then press power to the count of ten or till the alternate dash boots up
to save games on hdd put game disc in and save that way

Calm down, and take a breath, before being too hasty

The original Xbox can be used as a media centre, or you can play games on it.

First question is................what is it you want to do with it?

Well at first i just wanted to see what it can do
but it seams that i can do more with my pc and much easier
I've looked at online classified ads but find very few original xboxes
they are all 360's, so does that mean nobody wants to part with them
or that they are worthless?

Good news, you can install the original version XBMC and use it as the best non-HD media streamer there is. This will also allow you to play copied games. I would also look at getting the remote control, you should be able to pick one up for around a fiver on ebay.

Have a look here,

Sorry for the huge bump but:
this link appears dead...is there a guide for how to install any version of XBMC on the original Xbox (I think mine's was chipped years ago but I haven't used it in ages) :tumbleweed:

Still love the original xbox. Obsolete now that everything is HD, but as a media centre it was light years ahead of its time. The homebrew available for it was unbelievable. Still got my original with 120gb replacement drive and executer chip. Picked up two crystals from fleabay last year, £20 each, bought softmod kit, including splinter cell. Keeping these two as spares, just in case.

Sorry, don't think so. XBMC was migrated to Linux, Mac and PC and now android but the 360 remains a locked platforms and so no XBMC option for it. Same really, it would be ideal.

thanks, seen a complete softmod for the original xbox so may hook mine up and use in bedroom for movies

xecuter of some sort. The switches came with the 2.6, 2.6 ce or the x3. I still have mine, flashed with xbmc and coin ops. Got the x3 chip and the front panel with the lcd screen in it. Best £40 i ever spent. Play all the emulators i will ever need
