A bit of help please

Hi all, first of all happy new year to everyone.
I hope some of you guys may be able to help here i bought my lad an xbox off fleebay for his birthday crimbo eve, it's not modded as far as i know and he took it round to his mate to show him some of the games he like playing on and him and his mate was looking to have ago on xbox live, now to what he said he put in halo 2 and went on to live and it said it was updating the dash but then they had a power cut and now it wont load to ms dash. It first came up with service needed and error 13 but he was still able to play games but now service screen has gone and no discs will play at all.
I have been doing a bit of reading and i downloaded slayers to see if it would help but with it not loading anything it cant be done, so is there any way of sorting this out or will i have a bit of work on my hands.
i have seen somewhere a little something about reading eprom from motherboard to get hdd key so then i can re do drive through my pc but i was just wondering if this is the correct way or is ther something else i need to do, any help guys would be much appreciated to sort his box out for him

what happens now when you turn the xbox on. Does it show anything on your tv, if not what does the light ring on the front of the xbox do, does it flash in any sequence and if so what colours?

hi mate,
when it boots up first comes up the flubber screen then big green X then after a bit of a delay microsoft appears underneith the screen then it flicks over as to load game but it just stays black and button just stays green all the way through, i have not done any back up for it so not got any info off the box either mate

think your best bet now is the hotswap method if you do a search on hotswap you should get the idea of what you need to do.

sounds a bit odd to me, the dash update is on and would have been executed from the halo 2 disc, error 13 is a dash problem (unspecified and could mean many things)

The odd bit is it still worked for games ?????(any kernel eror stops games booting) and the fact that it went away (that just doesn't happen).....

so now it hangs at black screen regardless if a game is in or not???

actually t could be a ide/power issue, causing intermittent errors, have you checked it for signs of modding?, feet easily removed, dodgy looking stickers?

i have been looking into hotswap but my concern is that i dont have the unlocking key for the hdd, will i still be able to do the hotswap or will xbhdm be able to get the key off the drive as i already downloaded xbhdm incase thats the way i have to go

as i have been reading it is an odd one as even when error was on game still worked but now it just black screen with or without a disc and to your other question all stickers are perfectly intact no sign of being opened at all, at the min all i can see doing is trying hotswap and hope be able to get something moving again with it but still looking into all info available before i do anything

games will still boot with error 13. i have had this error before and it is normally easily sorted, all t at is normally needed is to pop in a live game, then go to live when game boots, which will reinstall dash and thats it. but is strange how your not getting any error screen now!

i just spoke to my lads mate and got me a little confused now as he said before error 13 came up it said something about a recovery disc but now ??????
i'll keep looking through post's and google see if i can find anything else on this

hi guys, i have just been trying to do hotswap but as its reading what seems to be the xbox's directory its coming up with constant errors and when in options its saying locked.
i have been reading through hotswap tut again and it mentions UDE_1.4 files but in the xbhdm v1.9 it does not have any of this at all, is xbhdm suppose to have the UDE files in with it or do i need to do a bit of searching for another copy of it or for the UDE filesthem.
i know the problem is not having the hdd key but does anyone know a way of getting this or a way of getting around it.
any help guys is greatly aprreciated to sort this out for my lad
