help with update on game disk

hi guys my son has just been given an rgh xbox by my mate has hes upgraded. my problem is iv downloaded a couple of games from newsgroup but when I try playing them it says that the game needs an update but when I try to update its just about to finish when I get an error & it say something about contact xbox support is there anyway round this ,or am I doing something wrong any help appricated . sorry if this is astupid question but im new to all this like I said only got it given Tuesday...thanks in advance

You cannot upgarde using an official update, at least shouldn't. You have to create a hacked image and install it.

Can you still boot in Xell by powering on with eject button?
What dashboard version you are on at the moment?

If you have the files from the original dump of the nand and such, PM dave24 and I am sure he will be more than happy to create a new image for you.

For newest games you will likely need dashlaunch 3.11 as well.
