Putting Freestyle on my jtag! need a refresher course! jtag xbox 360

super mint,

As some of you may know i was selling (sold) me jtag.

Now thought I'd do the decent thing and stick "freestyle" on a HDD 40 gig for the chap that bought it. (i was just going to copy it across from the attached HDD to a spare 40 gig sata)

So turns the machine on with the attached 300 GIG that sits in an xbox 360 HDD shell and freestyle won't load! it just hangs there, I'm thinking that the HDD is corrupt in some way.

So plugged the drive via a data transfer cable, you know the ones that you get for the 360 ? and attached it to me PC, of course with it being formatted in a way the xbox does it (before installing) freeboot the PC can't see it (well it can but it wants me to add a MBR to it)

Mint and then to top it off the drive is started to stick!

Think.....

A) HDD got a knocking about when it was in the boot of the car in the 800 mile road trip i done the other week
B) Didn't know the drive was also sticking!
c) Genuine mistake!

I thought I'd attach an 8 GIG usb stick to it and try and install "free style" I've formatted the usb stick too 2 gig with the 360 under system settings and have made a disk with

freestyle-usb.ISO

I'm a little lost now to what to do, i know i have to load xex menu and then copy some files across to the usb stick for freestyle to work but it was ages and ages ago!

Any tips please?

FreeStyleDash1.10Final
Freestyle (base, media, skin, freestyle.xex)
Launch ( freestyle-hdd.iso and freestyle-usb.iso)
Source (with lots of files in it)

I've burned the USB.iso....and i'm just about to plop that in the machine...

Thanks very much for that! I'm just releasing the poison into the room now and have sealed up the "lab" with masking tape. This poison wont take long to have an affect....then again there's always electrocution, which i was thinking wouldn't be as bad as this, OK sounds easy, I'm just running a bath with a toaster and an electric fire on the side of it...in the mean time until the bath fills with snakes and tarantulas I'll have a look for that....

this is all based on latest versions, mind.

Well pulled it from sale and have issued a refund.....(see other post) there's a few things that i should have done with this, i guess I'll either fire them your way (if you don't mind) for a dash update or I'll carry on in this thread.....i guess since I've come this far then a new dash and the new "freestyle" and all that is where I'm heading (oh no! i hear some of you say!)

Going to have another look at this when i get the chance tonight.

If i attach the HHD (300 gig) that is full of games and also "freestyle" the old one then i can still run the games. (xbla)

Aslo i can still run the xex and that pops up a menu with a list of the games etc. (it's just "freestyle" that hangs")

How ever the machine needs and update i guess so i might as well do it...

So i guess what i'm going to do is have a look at updating the dashboard 1st....(Run away i hear ya all say!)


Apart from "youtube" is there any Tuts/Pdf's on this...

I know you was looking for a tut other than youtube mate but when i saw your jtag listed the other day i was considering buying it and had already looked into updating the dash i found this video which seems easy enough, saying that ive never done one before so you may need it confirming when i paid djjama to jtag mine it came back to me with rrod so ive had one but never used one lol

Thanks for that, going to take a step back and see what's happening here...

I think the latest dash as posted by Oggy is 13604.

So I'm going to take one step at a time and try and update the dashboard 1st, then i can worry about xex menu and freestyle i guess.....it's a minefield out there ain't it? that many tuts and that..!

Don't know if I'm coming or going! lol.....

Just having a bit of a play and a read of the new dashboard and it's still a little mine field, so plugged the old HDD back in and have Luckily still got xex menu, so when i booted into that i can FTP to it and can see the folder and the files etc.

So thanks Oggy reading your post I'll copy this all across....eventulay!

But I'm doing this the wrong way round now as i really need to get the dash updated 1st.! (I'll do some more reading!)

(and i have it as ip address 192.168.1.125 set out side the router range, but now when i come to think of it i have it disabled in the console so it wont connect to live, can i hell remember what the code was, will have to have a look through all the PM's and see who i bought it off! if that was you all them moons ago please stand up! lolol...)

Ok matey, i'll have a look for the flash 360 and make a "nand" back up....(ah you sent me it! ...cool)

Just copying over all the games from the USB HDD as that might have to have a format if it's got a bad sector or so on it (which i suspect what is the cause of this in the 1st place) going to take a while like FTP as got the HDD packed like, and of course it would be a 300 gig one.

As for your next bit...

You can go straight to latest dashboard, you don't have to build them up.

Afternoon! or evening should i say!

Ok that's the "nand" backed up and the new dashboard on it.


A massive shout out to "unison" ....currently on the new dashboard! woop woop!

Just for your info after lots and lots of reading about the update etc there's quite an easy way to do it. (after loads and loads of tuts etc there's quite a simple one)

"nand flasher does it all for ya!"

Really it does, all i done was booted into xexmenu and then run nandflasher, made a back up of the nand, copied it over into fbuild folder on the PC and copied my key into a txt file, copied over 13604 files into my files and then into dos and then I run the exe, told it that it was a xenon fbbuild.exe -c xenon -f 13604 -d mydata updflash.bin and let it make me a new "nand"

copied that back to the usb key, ran "xex menu" and then run "nand flasher" then wrote the new nand with the new dashboard.

Powered off for 2 minutes (pulled power cable out to flush the nand/flash)

Just need to copy over and get the new freestyle on!

yeah thanks bud.

All i have to do now is sort a few things out and then it'll be a fully fledged jtag again.

• Sort out DVD sticking...(I'm sure I'll manage that, not that i use it any way)
• Parental controls - haven't got a clue what the pass code is...(good job i ain't ever deleted an email since 2002!..lol...if you were the guy that sold me this 2 or 3 years ago or so PLEASE STAND UP!)
• Put the new freestyle dashboard on (not sure if i should just format the attached 300 GIG after all it was the corrupt FSD that got me into this mess in the 1st place.)
• Make a cup of coffee and sit and watch some TV...(yeah can you believe it!...lol)
• Make a backup of the current nand (done this any way)

And just for your safety you should always RAR the file and this way it shouldn't get corrupt if you ever need it again (learned that the hard way some times, that goes for any file you wanna keep safe!)

Right i'm off for a bit, done me own "nand" in with all the reading over the past day and a half..! shame i can't take my own grey "nand" out my head and flash that, i'm sure i have a few "bad blocks" upstairs! lolol....
