havent modded an xbox since the new slims came out .got asked today to repair one and mod it for backups .

im assuming faulty laser (havent got console here yet )

are they easy to mod or is it a cheaper option to send drive to someone to do it rather than spend money just for 1 xbox , plus how often do they need updating as to be honest i cant be bothered with the hassle if its gonna be a once a month thing ,just to keep infront of micros**t

also are the new slims ones prone to laser failure ,or could it be the drive itself ?

console hasent ever been opened .

yeah you can mod it but i presume it's a liteon, (i think all the new ones are liteons) you'd have to buy some kit for it to read the key from it, and then how many times you'll need to re flash for future proofing M$ updates is any ones game mate, i haven't had much experience with the slims but I'd say laser rather than drive failure, but un-lucky if it's a new slim like.

after ordering in a new laser for the drive and fitting it (removed static point )
the xbox is the same ,wont read a disk !!

the console seems to tweet like a bird when a disk is loaded .

need help on this one

I've never had any success on laser exchanges and that's how i ended up (many moons ago) here! modding.....lol

(some people end up adjusting the "pots" makes the laser's change there angle and strength etc etc.)

Can't really help you more than that, which i know isn't a help at the minute, I'm sure one of the bods will be along soon with advice...

Good luck mate.

Dibbs.

worth a try???

HOW TO FIX: Insert Disc, wait for open tray message. Turn off XBOX with disc STILL in tray. Turn on XBOX with the button to open the tray, pull out disc and immediately slam tray shut, turn off XBOX immediately. Should hear buzzing sound, this is the laser reset sound put disc back in and problem should be fixed. YOUR WELCOME

that doesnt work at all ,didnt think it would but worth a few seconds of my life to try it . did find out though that the laser is out of alignment ,the rails on which the laser travels are adjustable , the screws that hold them have moved out of alignment .

after 4 hours of testing managed to get a few games to load . im afraid a new drive is the only choice .
