I updated my 3 and my friends 2 xbox drives yesterday.
I did Tin Tin on 4x speed which worked on my elite phat (all phat) with no issues.
I tried in all other consoles (3xliteon and one benq) with varying degrees of failure.
I then burnt game at 2.4 which worked on my older liteon but failed on benq (says play game but then fails reading disk).
My m8 emailed to say he burnt one disk (all verb better disks being used) which worked good on one of his liteons but failed on other.
All these units play normal backup games fine so i am presuming its a very delicate process of laser reading edge.
Has anyone had similiar issues on backups and also has anyone had any issue with XGD3 original playing.
cheers chronoman

burnt driver sf today and failed on verify.
not having good sucess with these!

I'm the friend that Chronoman is referring to.

I've burnt TinTin, Batman Arkham City, Sonic Generations.
Have been burnt using ImgBurn v2.5.5.0 using Singapore Verbs 43667 using the Liteon IHAS124 drive at 2.4 speed - all verified with success. (FYI - in settings OPC is ticked as well)

They all work without effort on the first Xbox, but no joy on the second.
Have installed TinTin to hard drive AOK and can play from there.
Have also played Batman from disk with no problems or drive read effort.

On the second xbox, all XGD3 backup discs do not work at all.
Just get the "Play Game" message - run it - goes black for a few seconds then back to dash.
The Y "Game Details" button has no effect.
However, XGD2 discs such as Dance Central 2 play fine on this xbox, so not a key problem.

So can conclude that the discs are burnt fine - must be xbox/drive in some way.

One suggestion, is since both of my xboxes have identical drives, is to flash mine with each other's key and swap physical drives.
That will check if it is the drive itself, maybe some drives cannot reach/read the outer edge at startup.

I just did a reburn of my batman with verbs MKM003 but i left OPC unticked and it`s produced the best burn i have up to now , i think it`s just trial and error at the moment.@ johnnyX2 i think it`s more to do with a weaker laser.

Just done my gears of war 3 with OPC off and got another decent burn OPC-OFF.jpg

i thought opc was only for 4x
and it isnt needed for 2.4 speed
and im pretty sure theres a newer version of imgburn out too 0.2.5.6

yes it is and that`s what i`m burning at and using the newest imgburn m8

with the second xbox are you 100% sure you have the right F/W on the drive ?

That`s what made me think it could be a laser issue

Yes, I have not ruled that out, but it appears that previously "good" lasers with XGD2 are totally broken with XGD3, whereas some read XGD3 flawlessly.
FYI both of my boxes read XGD2 without any unreadable disc errors.
It does not matter how many times I try the "broken" xbox it will not load the game or even attempt to.

There appears to be many problems over the forums on the net with this "play game" problem with XGD3.

True , maybe it`s more to do with the firmware for the iHAS drives , i can burn a xgd3 game the old way with `truncate` method and it will boot up with no problems.

Who knows at this stage - still new.
In my case, same disc works on 1 box, but not the other.
Haven't checked the truncate method yet, but suspect it would work on the "broken" box, may try tomorrow after work.

Wlecome to digiworldz Johhnyx2 (About time).
I tried once more burning driver ,verified ok but failed install on 48% as with all other disk fails so presuming laser not picking up info at end of disk?
Going to untick opc and see if any difference.

hiya, im having big trouble burning the games aswell, first 3 or 4 i did were brilliant, kprobe gave great results, but then i altered some settings and its all gone to cock, the lastest one ive just tried burning i turned everything off in eprom settings, left opc on and burned at x4 speed and got a good burn, i think its a case of just messing with the settings to suit your pc, thanks

BINGO

Symptom: XGD3 discs display "Play Game" - Press A - display turns black for a few seconds then back to dashboard.
Pressing Y also has no affect.
Additionally, you may find that XGD2 discs load well.

Cause: In my case, JungleFlasher v1.89b autoloaded v1.1 firmware previously. Moving tabs reverts to autoloading v1.1

Solution: Reflash with JungleFlasher and make sure correct v2.0 firmware is loaded before flashing.

All discs now load including the ones previously burnt now work.

I've no doubt there are other causes, but probably this is cause of a lot of them.
