Ok so a couple of months back I updated my jtag to the kinect dashboard - in preparation for getting the Kinect for xmas. At the time I installed the secondary update too to get the avatars back.

I run a powered 3.5" external drive, normally through the back USB port.

I've just finally got round to putting the kinect on today. Obviously, as per the instructions, the Kinect had to go on the back, so I put the external hdd on a front port.

Kinect asked for another update, so I applied it...no problems there.

Booted to FSD and saw games fine.

I then attempted to play from external, the game Kinect Adventures, and Kinect Sports, the first of which dumped me back to nxe with a "game failed. please download again" or words to that affect message. The second game loaded fine into menus etc until started to play the game and it then gave a disc read error message.

I thought there was some problem...but then I tried Kinectimals.....that played fine, and my son has been playing it for a couple of hours with no problem (again from USB)

However, I then went to load the game Joyride. It started to load, but then the 360 powered itself off.

I then turned the 360 back on.....and once in FSD I can no longer see my external games showing up at all.

To cut a long story short....now, the External HDD will ONLY work when its in the rear USB port.....it has stopped working in the front ports? (I do not know if it worked in front ports pre-kinect as never tried it).

The front ports themselves do work as tried standard usb sticks with no problem. I've also tried a USB 4 port hub in the rear, to see if that would allow both kinect and external drive....but again it does not get detected? Any ideas what is causing this and why it suddenly stopped?

Kinect dash is on 2.0.126.11.0 FWIW

I have the same setup as you above and kinect sports works fine from external in front port. My hdd is usb powered though. Have you tried loading games from another drive?

hiya....

I couldnt type earlier due to dw being down

here is what I wrote about 30mins or so after making my OP

well while playing a nonkinect game I had an idea.

I thought about when you need to flash from usb with xellous. It requires the power to be cut from the 360, else xellous never recognises the usb stick to flash the new nanddump.

At the initial install, I had pulled the power......as I had to gain access to take the wires out the back from the external usb. Since the 360 had force powered off trying to load Joyride it may have explained why.

So....I took the power supply out and then back in....plugging USB drive back to front port.

It worked!!!

What is odd now however, is I tried Kinect Adventures.....worked perfect (prev gave the "The Game Could Not Start Please Download The Game Again" message

I then tried the Kinect Sports......worked perfect (previously loaded - until I selected a game of football and then it crashed back to dash with Unreadable Disc error)

And finally, tried Joyride...worked perfect (which was what caused the 360 to fully shut off last time shortly after trying to load it from FSD (well within a few seconds), killing part of the usb control perhaps

So.....not a clue why those 3 games had the problem initially....after all Kinectimals was working fine.

But then thought the pain of this would mean would have to cut the power each time want to use the Kinect so it recognises the USB on front ports.....so I shut it off as normal, and then back on.......It still worked

So...any idea why these games wouldn't work first time round? It wasn't FSD as tried xexmenu etc which also wouldn't see the USB drive unless it was in the rear port only, like FSD. The 360 hadn't been on for any period of time previously initially...just those few kinect games, the first cpl of which were unsuccessful (after installing the final part of kinect update and kinect configuration)

But nope its not USB powered, its an external powered concealed docking station, which I use to switch hdd's as it feeds the 360/ps3/popcorn/wii via a usb selector switch.

Find it very odd that the first games I tried after setting up the Kinect both failed, but with different errors......but then the 3rd, Kinectimals played fine...no reboots or anything in between....and I even retried Kinect Adventures after playing Kinectimals at the time with the same error message. So somewhere/somehow, its as if launching Joyride killed the 360 to cause it to shutdown (memory leak perhaps from a prev game or the initial kinect setup/update).

I tried all sorts of combinations...and it was only the external hdd being connected to rear alone which would work - before I thought about unplugging 360 from mains.

Shut down/powered up 360 a few times since and each time its working fine again with the drive on a front port....so can't explain why..

Have to put it down as one of them "fook knows" moments I guess.......

I've yet to try the usb and kinect with a hub on the rear though. Wondering if that may cause problems though, as seeing as in the Kinect box they give people an extension cable for if they have a WiFi adapter to reach the front port - could suggest issues

my jtag only works with the USB drive attached the front of it, haven't got the new dash on like still running the old one..lol but yeah only works when in the front of my jtag.....no consilation i guess but mines been like that since i had it..
