This may not be ethical.

I want to return my month old elite, since now banned.

Was purchased at Argos.

There are no visible marks/scuffs that the case has been opened.

Which method would most likely succeed?

a) Just reapply warranty sticker, box up and take back with some excuse.
b) Apply warranty sticker and super over heat until it dies, then return.
c) Buy another elite, swap the innards, warranty stickers and return same day saying will not read disks (of which, which stores have the slackest returns policy?)
d) Buy another elite (£195 Argos+£10voucher+Forza3+Pure+Lego batman+extra controller), then flog the spare 120gb Hard drive from the banned one, both the new controllers and the games, comes down to about £85.

Or please fell free to suggest how to resolve my dilemma.

Why dont you sell it on ebay as a full working xbox because they are all cunts tricks. Just buy another one for playing on live. And i believe most shops check the serials now, your serial should be on the reciept

Sir, I do have some morals, little, but some.

I would not feel an ounce of remorse against a large company than I would for a poor schmuck on eBay.

Thought about this myself!

Morals? isnt that what kids storys have?

If you swapped the insides, then the serial numbers will still match? Seems the way to go?

Read on another forum that places that sell 360's are required to ring MS with the SN. That may or may not be true. If it was me i'd intentionally break it and take it back. I am planning on doing it myself sometime soon but I will intentionally break it, even if it means just disconnecting the dvd drive or something. For that extra measure you can buy MS warranty stickers from fleabay just in case they check.

I have the origional sticker on some wax paper.

If I swap the case and the sticker under the usb flap, the the serials should be OK.

Go for it. A few people, from what i've read, have already done it.

dont forget theres a serial under the metal chassi ,i know argos aint gunna check this, but it is there

Wait til Assasins Creed II and Left 4 Dead II come out on 20th and get them in with the Amazon £210 for Elite and 3 games

you'll get near on £90 for the games. then sell your banned elite on ebay and you'll be more or less break even give or take a few quid

I read a thread where someone just said they took it back, someone else took one back saying it rrod'ed intermittently. Did you say you got it from Argos? They offer a 14 day no quibble return thing don't they? I'm planning on doing it before Xmas then i'll swap the boards and take it back saying my lad wants something else and not the 360.

where is this offer, can only find the elite plus 2 games.

As far as i'm aware electrical goods are not included in the 14 day no quibble returns policy, it's stated on the receipt and they usually tell you when buying them.

Argos are funny with consoles and some of the staff are aware of modding.

A few years back when Wii's were in short supply and my boy wanted one I ended up with 3 of them after ordering from germany and getting 2 from Argos thinking my sister would want one for her kid. She didnt so rather than sell them on I tried to return them so someone else could have them . Argos wouldnt take them so tried another Argos store but this time said it had a fault code. They said they would check it while I waited in store in the Christmas rush while Im parked outside on double yellows. Just took the console back from them and sold it for what I paid for it . Just open it up cut a power cable and tell them it wont even start wont take them long to check that.

You bought an Xbox, hacked the firmware and was promptly banned for doing so. Suck it up and deal with it like a man instead of returning the console to Argos. Sell it on as a banned console and go and buy another one and hopefully you will learn from your mistake. You hacked it you were banned for it, you knew the consequences of your actions. If all the idiots like yourself continually return their consoles because they intentionally messed them up, how much longer do you think companies like Argos will be around, do you not read the papers or watch the news about companies going to the wall on a daily basis. Stuff like this plays a small but important part in the greater scheme of things, and people like yourself prey on the naivety of the poor checkout person. Grow a set of balls, deal with the situation, move on and learn.

Get a grip man if someone wants to try this its up to them and maybe they cant afford just to get another one like many of my friends ,many they cant afford extortionate game prices.
Dont need lecturing or abuse .
Someone is asking for advice not a lecture

A.K.A gutswapping

I've did it twice with rrod's

Easiest way is to buy a new console , and return it repackaged and claim it was an unwanted gift . Pay cash , Pretty hard to question peoples ethics when a large majority of the forum deals in acquiring services via dodgy methods

I would insult you, but simply cannot be arsed.

I thought my 1st post was quite clear, I wanted advice not de-constructive criticism.

Suck it up?? suck what up??

Grow a set of balls? How? Mine are just fine. I am not some kind of newt that can grow appendages willy-nilly.

In the end unless MS issue strict return guidelines and the retailers are found NOT to have stuck to them the end result will be MS eating the poo so speak !!
And as they even make $$ from peps using hacked consoles with the dl content and gold membership etc etc
That coupled with the fact there successes can be even if ever so slightly being credited to the fact that you can hack it if you like (if where all honest) !
I say let them eat poo they will only refub and redistribute anyway and even if they don't its a tax write off any hows ...
Hardly warrants bigoted insults ehh
