Hi there,

just want to double check something, as its been sometime since I last modded a box, my last being a hitachi 78 when the first firmware for that was released.

Anyways, back then and all earlier drives I always used my old pc with via6421 pci card. I believe the app was the maximus firmware toolbox for doing the first of the hitachi 78s??

Anyways, I now have another Hitachi drive (not yet opened to know exactly which ver of Hitachi), that I promised a mate I would flash for him. Naturally I've downloaded the latest 1.51 firmware and the latest Jungleflash software......but I'm just wondering and wanted to check this... because I am doing a Hitachi and not a Liteon, am I best off keeping the Via drivers running that were working in the past?

I do intend to do my own liteon drive on my new console once my maximus xtractor has been delivered by plexo here, but thought its perhaps wiser to check getting this one done first, as flicking through the guide for JF it seems to imply that it will work with either but wanted to be sure :)

cheers,

I have done all drives in J/F without the via drivers installed.

if you are planning to use jungleflasher mate remove the via drivers as the tut says and install the other ones

well I've opened it up ready for when I dig the old pc out.

It's a 47DJ model. Being that old a model makes it tempting to stick with the traditional dos method but I'll resist as must learn to use this bad boy JF :)

Reason I wondered about having to remove the via drivers or not was because the tutorial says "PortIO functionality was added for VIA 6421 S‐ATA users who removed drivers to hack the Lite‐On drives without freezing issues.
To enable PortIO usage, check VIA Ports Only under DVDKey 32 tab.
WinAPI should used where possible, although WinAPI requires the drive to be assigned a drive letter, this isnt possible with a VIA 6421 with Drivers Removed"

So suggested as if saying "use winapi unless you've already made the change to portio"

just looking through the guide now and it says

"Setting ModeB
Hook up your Hitachi Drive via S‐ATA, power it on, then open JungleFlasher and you will be presented with the welcome screen"

can I just double check, does that mean to power it on while pc is already switched on and in XP? As I'm only used to doing it in the past using the ol' slax cd.

Never realised that this JF also can switch to modeB though without needing that slax disc so that is very good :)
