my x box plays ok but it doesnt display any video only sound,it hasnt been modded in any way,i have tried a replacement cord from the tv to the console but i still get no picture, there are no red lights on,can anyone help?

Is there a switch on the cable to change between HD and standard TV? The cable I had was the same and I had to move the switch to standard TV.

no switch,im using the 3 colour cords directly into the tv,and the cord which came with the console

you wouldnt get any sound if the switch was in the wrong setting
it looks like the 3 red light symptoms mate
but without the 3 red lights
send it back to ms ifits still in warrenty
other wise do the 3 red light fix

you need to do the xclamp fix m8 .....it works ..done a few like this now

they usually go a pink or blue colour then you get nothing only the game sound in the background.

so if you search on here/google for the xclamp fix is easy to do only cost a few quid if you get a kit from fleabay. but if it still under warranty send it back saying it has three rings :D

its out of warranty,i will search and look for the xclamp fix ..thanks for all the replies

he means on the 360 side side mate, not where you plug into the tv.

look at the square part where the on the lead that goes into the 360 and there will be a switch saying hdtv on one side and tv on the other, make sure the slider switch is on tv as you are using the 3 jacks and not the hd jacks.

if your not sure what i mean let me no.

ive had this problem before and it didnt click till the next morning.

this a pic i found googling for you

No its definately switched onto tv but hey i never knew that switch was there,I ordered a kit of e-**y I will give it a go.

its not hard m8 ...just be carefull when taking the old xclamps off..thats when most people slip and hit something on the board.......there are loads of guides on how to sort it ...most kits on fleabay come with instructions and are easy to follow....if not google it :D ...if you need any help just ask...

well i just finished doing the repair with the x clamp, the seven clips on the back was difficult and getting the clamps off wasnt easy, but I did it and it only cost me £2.99 and 2 hours of my time, hope it lasts more than a day..lol,thanks for everyones input on the post, much appreciated.

i have done 2 this week, fixed both which had 3 red lights, but second went from 3 red lights to 1 red light E74, that took another couple hours to get rid of, but played on the E74 360 for over an hour, and was ok, and then left it on for a few hours whilst we watched DVD on other DVD player, and then shut it down, turned it on next day, still perfect. Yes Joe, that was yours LOL

since you made this post i have had back from ms 2 replacment 360 units that i sent 10 days ago which were flashed.

simple and easy and saves all that waste of time x clamp rubbish.

once 3 red light always 3 red light.

it can last a week or a month but sure enough it will come back.

bth:the 2 units were unregistered units i brought from the bay for 30quid each.both now sold with special thingy and games for 180 each-happy days:)

hi m8, well first it was 3 red lights, so i removed both xclamps, and fitted news washers and bolts as ordered here https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/posts/1458792/.

removed old gunky paste with nail varnish remover until mirror finish on chips.
very slight film of thermal paste and tightened all up. then it gave me 1 red light E74.

so i cleaned chips again, and tried a few more times, but still E74.

so i borrowed girlfriends hairdryer and whacked it on high and hot, and propped it up using xbox shell, but had it direct over green underside of board over the video chip, left it for 10 mins ish, and damn, it was hot.

put it back together, and all working.

even today i tested it, playing Silent Hill, no probs at all.
