making a backup of a backup copy

anyone know where there is a tutorial of making a backup copy of games.
do i need a special dvd drive or will any dvddl drive work for making backups

use clonecd with a pioneer 111d and make a 1:1 copy

or use clone cd to dump your copy,then burn the resulting files with clone cd
