Updated my android box last night to the new kodi but the box ran so slow and my pulse build wouldnt install properly so ive had to go back to 15.2 and now running like a dream, anyone else having probs with new kodi

solid on lappy & firestick

My T8 and fire stick run perfectly. I would completely uninstall Kodi and install new version then launch it and let it update. Then see how it runs and if it's okay then install a build on it. What android device you got and when was the firmware last updated.

Ive got a mxq box mate, guner stick with 15.2 as it runs great

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

I never bother updating unless i have to. More often than not, it causes issues rather than bennefits. :)

I am not 100% sure on some of these Chinese type Android boxes as most seem to ship with Kit Kat 4.4 and so run fine on Kodi 15.2 but when you start going up to the next update like Kodi 16 which is now finishing development this was designed to run on Android 5.1, If your machine cannot be upgraded Android firmware wise then eventually you will lose out.

I follow the official Kodi Forum quite a bit and have posted debug logs for them to help with the development of the Nvidia Shield TV and already the Devs are saying that Kodi 17.0 will run far better on Android 6.0 (marsh mallow) which is nearing release.

Where this leaves all the Cheap chinese imports i do not know. If you want future compatibility then get something official like a Fire TV its literally the same price as some of these Chinese 4K models now. I know which i would buy

Firesticks are updating to Fire OS 5 using Android 5.1 as its base operating system, instead of Android 4.2.2, which is what the older Fire OS uses
This stops llama working.

Yes llama stops working with the latest fire software but kodi can be launched by clicking on the icon in the apps menu instead of the recents menu. So a few more clicks required that's all.

My T8 version two is running on android 4.4.2 and runs kodi 16 fine but maybe when kodi 17 is released it may be a different matter. But I think your right if the manufacturers of what ever device you buy does not update the firmware with the latest android os you are screwed. You need to be buying a device with good support like the amazon tv devices like digi247 mentioned.

Does the firestarter app still work.

Some addons will eventually stop working on older kodi builds so eventually you will need to upgrade or lose addon.
Hi do you have to uninstall the old version first and install the new version and what about the addons do you lose them when you uninstall. Thanks in advance.

Nope just install over the top, addons remain.
You can always back addons up if worried.

Install firestarter and it will start itself.

No you should just update from the play store. Back up your kodi data if want to be on the safe side. So if you want revert back to kodi 15.2 you can unistall kodi 16 and restore your data.

Ive had probs all day, ended up installing 15.2 but this morning decided to mess up so installed 16 but wouldnt run my pulse build so installed pulse lite and at the minute all is well :)

I think if keep your build small you shouldn't have any problems. I think because the latest kodi is meant to run on android OS 5.1 and your box runs on 4.4 and you only have 1gb ram this could be the issue. I am running android 4.4 and have 2gb ram but have noticed that kodi is not as responsive with the latest update. Maybe the developers of our boxes will push a firmware update with the latest android OS but more likely they will want us to buy one of their new boxes with the new android OS. Makes sense for them to do the latter.

Hi can I download the kodi version on to a usb and plug it in a usb port on the box thanks.
