Sellers of Android boxes loaded with software enabling the free viewing of movies, TV shows and live sports have been raided this week by UK authorities. Trading Standards officers, police and representatives from Sky TV carried out raids in several locations, causing other sellers to quickly reconsider the tone of their marketing efforts.

“We do not control the content that is accessible on the internet via the product that we sell. We are currently working with Trading Standards to ensure that we can sell our products whilst adhering to UK copyright laws.”

the thing is that there is nothing illegal about this , the software is all freeware and the boxes can be legally purchased
what the customer does with its another story . its just like a pc shop selling pc's that can stream ,download and burn disks
any good lawyer will get these guys walking

I think its the fact they are advertising Free services which are normally paid for service if they were just the boxes your right no problem but if they are capable of "free box nation" then its illegal

what about selling a pc with burning software its exactly the same and nothing illegal if it was illegal then kodi would be shut down
its even advertised on the news feed for kodi that you can watch live channels

burning cds or dvds is not illegal and neither is streaming free to air tv channels the problem is when you advertise paid for services for free

but an old judge and 12 middle age computer illiterate jurors will not see that or know that

no providing the paid service is illegal the info that these boxes can do that is not

still need to prove he was providing the paid service . the equipment is not the problem its the paid service that's why he has been targeted
and that's nothing to do with him unless he was providing a stream .

These shores are awash with these Android boxes, sellers have made a killing on them since Astra 2 E & F satellites' UK beams took away all the FTA BBC & ITV channels. But, seeing what content they provide, I couldn't help thinking it was all too good to be true.
Even worse, there are dealers selling subscriptions- to watch FTA channels! Talk about taking the p*ss!
But regarding the legality of selling the Andriod boxes, I too think it will be very difficult to secure a conviction- the dealer is selling a box; what the customer does with it thereafter is surely beyond the dealer's scope.
Unless of course by selling them per-programmed to sniff out these illicit feeds, perhaps an 'aiding and abetting' charge could be pursued?

even with it programmed with addon's the problem is that most addons have legal podcasts and so on.
but most of these will be already installed imports so again he has not done anything to them just imported and sold on
he should have paperwork for this to show he has not done anything but advertise the fact that these boxes are capable

I agree, here it is either I907 or Android boxes to watch BBC/ITV etc, personally I haven't tried an Android box yet although I have just ordered a Now TV box to try with my UK VPN Router, I have seen one working here and was pretty good. At least the streams don't keep moving!

Shouldn’t we take more interest in this or at least be more on guard?

Wow, I didn't think that they'd be bothered to do that. But then again, advertising the streaming services isn't wise, otherwise it's fine.

"Substancial lose to the tv industry and producers"

Wait! yes that will be that slight dip in share prices we seen. £1,667 million, down just 1% on last year.

It cost more money probably to prosecute than what lose was made. I hope the police and court are getting revenue from they agencies and not coming out tax payers pockets for such nonsense. Another case of protecting the rich and **** over the working man!
