The other day whilst idly browsing, I came across a site urging VPN users to do a DNS leak test.
I use Nord VPN and went to dnsleaktest.com (for want of a better suggestion). Upon performing the DNS leak test, it appeared that the IP address I was displaying, was not that being shown by the Nord application. In effect although I had the greenlight from Nord and supposedly using one of their servers, when I checked with opther IP look up sites, it appeared the Nord VPN client was doing nothing at all.
I was using a UK server at the time, and switched to a Russian one. When i repeated the test, the IP address detected was the same as the one displayed by Nord, thus issue had been resolved. I used the what is my IP and other sites and they all confirmed the Nord Russian IP address.
Having e-mailed Nord I got the usual run around and ended up being instructed to re-install. Aftger this the issue seemed to have resolved, but, had I not idly checked, I'd have never known the VPN client wasn't actually working correctly.
Firstly, anyone any idea how this could happen, and secondly, I guess I would urge people to regularly test their connection.
