Hi

I am moving over to BT tomorrow and have been provided with the BT Home Hub 5. I want to use my own Router. I have Linksys Router with Custom DD-Wrt on it. How can I configure the BT Home Hub 5 as modem only and connect my router to it. If anyone could please advise. Thanks

Dont quote me on this but i dont think you can, you would need a separate modem plenty on ebay just remember there are 2 types of Fibre CAB each use there own specific modem there is the Huawei type and the ECI type. you can find out which one at the end of your street/avenue or wherever its located: ::. Hi Digi

Just been reading on net and it does not look like the Hub 5 can be run in Modem only mode which is abit shit.

I am currently on plusnet infinity and I have the openreach modem that I was using with this. Can I use this?

I have Linksys E4200 router running DD-wrt. Will this work on BT Infinity?

Yes you most certainly can as its openreach so you can just add your username etc into the modem, I flashed mine with an open source firmware which makes it easier to do and also allows the LAN2 connection to be used for monitoring purposes.

Sorry to be a noob but how would I enter the username into the modem?

I currently have my details entered i.e. connection type PPOE, username and passwd in my router for plusnet?

Any router will work as long as it can handle the speed most should handle at least 100mb fibre, i use to run an old draytek on mine but changed it recently for a TP-Link C9 with dd-wrt firmware on works 100%

the generic login for the Bt Infinity is [email protected] with no password if thats what your using presently in your router then that is also stored in the modem could be seeing as BT own plusnet

my username currently is ****@plusdsl.net and then my account password which I need to enter in my router page.

would I enter [email protected] in my router once moved over to BT?

its PPPoE and yes you will have to enter in both the Modem and router

Can I enter into Modem without flashing it or does it have to be flashed?

The the BT Home Hub 5 has a WAN Port. No way of using this to connect to my Router?

If memory serves me correctly you have to hack the modem to allow access or you could try and connect to it directly with the 192.168.1.1 addy and see if it lets you in.

I literally hacked mine straight away so i could access all the info required or change some values, the Huawei modem is easily hacked but the ECI as far as i can tell has not been hacked.

Personally if this is going to cause you issues why not purchase a new router with a VDSL modem built in

I would rather use my Linksys DD-Wrt router as I have three wifi access points setup around the house connected to my main router. When I get home I will try and see which modem it is whether it is the Huawei modem or the ECI one.

Can you purchase a VDSL Modem and then use my own router?

You can purchase them easily from Ebay even the hacked Huawei ones and the ECI standard ones, as you say check which one you are on once home then you can go from there

Checked and its an ECI one mate. How much should i look to pay from fleabay?
