ok lads im going to have a go at rewiring the house with cat6 and down the line will use it for cctv aswell what I would like to no is were most of you get cat6 from I can only find it on ebay but not sure if I trust it or not so can anyone say were they got there from and how much it was pls cheers tony

I get mine from my Local Trade Warehouse but to be honest the price is not much different from Ebay at times apart from the postage, What i will say is go for the full Copper UTP solid and stay away from stranded and copper coated alloy.

Also worth investing in the 2-3 piece RJ45 connectors as the Cat5e will work but its a struggle to get the cable in as its quite a bit thicker.

Remember stay away from the CCA crap even though its around half the price as you might as well install Cat5E full copper for the same price as the CCA

thanks for that digi ive got some 2 piece RJ45 connectors and quite a few 1 piece 1s with my bad eyes and shacky hands I did find it very hard doing cat5 to the 1 piece connectors but I could do the cat6 with it being thicker cable last time I looked the one I seen was about £150 notes so the one you put is a lot cheeper

305M EXCEL CAT6 Premium Gigabit Networking/Ethernet Cable FULL COPPER Cable LSZH

thanks m8 cheers tony

try comms express i use them a lot for pjs and they are quite reasonable . i will be installing cat6 in my house soon along with sat & tel cables all leading to a distribution point to a cupboard under the stairs . these will be terminated into faceplates in the rooms with 1 cable from the sat dish going to a amplified distribution point .this will be a project i will be starting soon

I use comms express for cat6 reasonable price and quick delivery.

Cheers for this guys, loft conversion is in progress and I am about to wire Cat6 into the room to a central Hub along with Sky etc..

Whats the plan as cat6 wont run your sky unless you get 4x4 hdmi matrix which as I recently found out are very pricey.

I think the best way is to get sat feeds in every room personally.

Excellent post @digi247 Will help out members when buying cables!!!

For small houses cat5e will transmit 1 Gigabit no problem if saving costs and on a budget.

Also it has a far better bend radius than cat6 and less likely to break under stress!

Another thing to note is to not run the cable if the temp is less than 5c (not a problem now) but can be in the winter, we had one job where we had 6 boxes of cat6 and a electric heater between each box keeping the cable warmer.

crazy lol - but no problems after :)

I am putting sky points in each room. I want network cable too.

I have done same thing and put 2 cat6 cables in each room, and 3 in larger rooms.

My plan is to have a spare cable available for later if the cost of HDMI matrixes come down

Yes the one you quoted in a previous post for £1800 is pretty steep for what it is 4x4 matrix units with receivers can be picked up for around £700-£1000 depending on brand and if you want to take a chance with a chinese import one then a 4x4 will cost you around £500.

all depends on what you want to pay

Wyrestorm do a nice 4x4 matrix kit.
4 Input / 4 Output Pro+ (HDBT Lite) Full HD Matrix Switch including 4x RX-70-PP slim receivers - Matrices - Pro+ - WyreStorm - Manufacturer - Habitech Website

This is £845+vat trade.

Control is usually by RS232, and normally once introducing a matrix you want to start thinking about advanced remote control witha processor.

RTI and wyrestorm combination works well, however this is not cheap and you will need to divulge in a little programming. unless you want a remote in every room to change the sources around all the time....

I would personally keep it simple guys, what you have is more than enough.

Its all lovely stuff and if I save up enough I might get it some time down the future but sticking to essentials only for now. The wires are all in place and will just be added to gigabit switch for now. If I do get a matrix will simply swap cables over. Just got remember to label them all lol
