My daughter has had the above for around 18 months, only uses them occasionally (connecting her BR player in her bedroom for youtube) although they are plugged in permanently. The one in her bedroom has developed a fault, it’s been plugged into an extension which I seem to remember you shouldn’t do, when plugged in none of the lights illuminate (remember just the bedroom one) and there is a faint clicking noise from it. Any ideas is it goosed? TIA.

as you say shouldnt use it in an extension cable

probably faulty as dont think you should hear anything

You can use Homeplugs in an extension lead (I do) it is possible you could lose some transfer speed, having said that I have never noticed any whatsoever

Have you tried resetting the plugs to factory default ? they should have a reset button on the bottom or side

yeah they do work in extension its just not recommended did it here

dont have homeplugs anymore but mine didnt have any reset buttons (probably cheap)

The only reason they are not recommended for use in extensions is the potential for signal degradation. The homeplug wouldn't be damaged.

My take would be if it clicks it's bricked.

I should of mentioned (sorry), Iv'e tried the NID/RST button on the side, nothing happens. would I be able to see anything if I opened it up? It has a screw in the middle with one of those triangular screw head thingies.

To be honest @willin I wouldn't recommend opening them up, I don't think there are any user reparable components in there

You can buy a decent set now for around £20

just thinking reading this thread, i've used homeplugs though an extension with no issues.

but what about surge protected ext leads? any chance they could damage/interfere?

@buzzer some work with surge protected extensions some don't, one of mine is on surge protected lead and works no problem with no noticeable loss of transfer speed

If it works, the extension lead will not cause any damage to the plug, worse case scenario is degradation of signal/speed
