I am looking to purchase the wrt1900ac linksys router in the near future and was looking to get a stand alone cable modem.

I live in the UK on Virgin media with the super hub 2. Ive read different posts from the net about the modem mode but Ive always preferred a separate modem.

Can anyone recommend a stand alone cable modem that will work with the linksys wrt1900ac without issues. I hope vm will activate it BTW

thanks.

just put the superdud in modem only like you say, then its just a modem, no need for another modem as it works perfectly fine for that, its the wireless side of it thats shite. then add your own router as you plan to do, dont see the point in changing the modem, thats if virmin will even allow you to do that.

virgin superhub with asus wiireless router..great combo , reliable and good range with asus wireless router..i have this setup with asus RT-AC68U as my wireless dual band router..

I have a super hub 1 and 2. Is there any difference in any of the two modems?

im the same just use my superhub in modem and iv got my netgear 7000 nighthawk doing the routing and wireless, does the job perfectly for my needs with over 20 things connected either wired or wireless.

when you say "superhub" is that version 1 or 2?

im using v1 mate, no need to upgrade, dont know if theres any differences in the modem from v1 or v2, but i get my full speed all the time so it works as it should which is all i could want.

Ive got both super hubs but recently changed back to sh1 as i had issues with the sh2 connecting on link via xbox 360.

I do seem to get my maximum speeds on sh1 where i didn't on sh2.

Ive not used any of them in modem only mode before so i need to make the best choice for me.

upto you what you do pal, but i can 100% tell you that putting either in modem only mode and using a 3rd party router is the way to do things, looked up that router your wanting and it looks like a tidy bit of kit so you should be golden with that setup.

Thanks for the info Big Hol :) gonna stay with the version 1

let us know how you get on with the new router mate, take a look at the netgear r7000 nighthawk its a very capable router and abit cheaper than the linksys, but each to there own there both very good.

btw whats with gdurfy posts in the thread thats just started?

i agree with the other guys on the RT router, i'm with BT and have been using Asus router for the last 2 years or so, no problems at all and a great UI which is simple and clean. its a little pricy but should be all you need.

I agree with the other posts. Get rid of the ISP supplied rubbish and upgrade. I'm on a WDR3600 and love it.

Just got one of these ASUS routers to get over local lan streaming issues which was killing my previous router.

Does it have to be a certain kind of cable router to cope with the speeds ?
looking ahead in case I need one down the line :)

VM would supply that if you ever did upgrade to something your current router couldn't cope with.

You only rent, never own, VM equipment. However, I don't believe they come back to collect router if you were to leave. Not sure about any STB.

I meant if the wifi is cack and I put superhub into modem mode and bought a independent router :)
