Many of you are probably aware of this problem but if not:

I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop which albeit old performs reasonably well, due to the fact that it has a small 160Gb HDD which was getting full, I decided to move my larger files (photos etc) to my main PC, rather than transfer them using wifi, I had borrowed a friend's 500Gb Samsung SSD, so thought it would be quicker to write them to the SSD and then plug it into my PC.

The SSD plugs into the laptop using a USB, no problem, or so I thought, I copied all the files over then went on the internet, however, this was when the problem started, my internet was very slow and kept disconnecting, I looked at the signal and it was very very low, I have two networks and both were extremely low signal quality. I couldn't understand why, tried rebooting, no difference, in the end I decided to give up and transfer the images from the SSD to my main PC, as soon as I unplugged the SSD the signal went back to normal, plugged it back in and the signal dropped.

After Googling the issue, it is well documented that USB 3.0 devices have known interference issues with 2.4GHz!

Here is Intel's report: USB 3.0* Radio Frequency Interference on 2.4 GHz Devices

Very interesting indeed. And strange that it affects an older PC (which presumably does not have USB 3.0?). I too have been experiencing wifi drop-outs on a relatively young HP. Luckily it has the option of 5GHz, and so has one of my routers so I'll try that next time it plays up.
You could try wrapping the SSD in tin-foil?

Yes weird, it has USB 2.0 but still affects it.

I did read that wrapping in tin foil definitely helps, but at this stage I am not too bothered. I was thinking of upgrading my laptop to a bigger HDD and going SSD so that it runs faster, however, I am not too sure now.
