hi all, just got off the phone to virgin and they are sending me a superhub, didnt ask for it, but there sending it anyway, what are they like, are they better than a stand alone modem and router setup, are they any good at all, all feedback welcome!:proud:

what did you tell them to get one mate ? would like to have a play with one

didnt say anything about that mate, i was just whinging about my broadband speed to how much i was paying and they upped my broadband to 20meg and said they'll send me a superhub as my current modem supposedly couldnt handle 20meg even though i done a speed test when i got off phone and it was around 19800 kbps. said it will be with me in a week!

i dont even know what it looks like but i'll have a play with it when it comes i suppose, even though my current setup is doing a grand job!

Superhub, hmm !

Basically just their name for a combined modem/router thats much cheaper for them to manufacture. Its also known to have problems with various things like certain p2p etc which requires a lot of connections !

For some reason, its also said to have problems with certain chat sites.

tbh nozzer dont even think i'll be using it mate as theres nothing the matter with my setup now so no need to change it really, was just curious to weather it would of been worth the changeover, but seems not!

I got one installed last week, they sent out an engineer but he honestly didn't have a clue. I ended up moving him out the way as he had never used a mac so wasn't sure how the mouse worked.... eh? it's a feckin mouse mate lol

So far so good but i've still to integrate it with my other routers

I hear the wireless is not so good on it ?

Aside from that not heard of to many problems though I suspect 99.99% of users are not technical and don't want advanced features to cock up.

I got one of these. Looks nice and easy to set up. Does away with the separate modem.

Not sure if it's the router or not, but one of the computers we got in the house loses the wireless connection very infrequently. Could be the computer itself, but it never did that on the old linksys router.

Its the stupid hubs fault.

Loads of people having trouble with it.

iv just got mine today, cant install it yet though as i have a dreambox that needs to stay connected to net, might install it tonight see what its like, i might not either though as my current modem and router work a treat so no real need!

What package were you on before they gave you 20meg mate? did they up it to 20 becasue you were going to leave them?
I could do with 20 whilst paying for 10 if you know what i mean! :proud:

yeah mate i was only on 10, and whinged that sky can offer me 20meg for a 5er a month, which both me and him knew was a total lie but that was the blag i gave, the virgin representive said that isnt possible, so i asked what possible deal he could give me to stop me trying skys services, he said it'll be an extra 2 quid a month but that id get that reimbursed by a payment of 18 quid off my next bill, so got upgraded to 20meg free and the superhub for free, although it was a new 12 month contract but thats ok as virgin are by far the best internet service provider!

hope that helps, if not tough coz im a little pissed, lol!

This hub is the biggest pile of shite I've ever come across! The wireless is utter turd! I'm getting constant drop outs, speed often drops to 18mbps on my laptop and if I'm on xbox live and my laptop then I'm down to dialup speeds!

Never had the slightest trouble with my Buffalo router, only swapped it as I couldnt for the life of me get port forwarding to work on it..

iv never tried mine mate and to be honest i dont intend too, im happy with my old modem and standard netgear router, they run sound so why change it!

my father in-law moaned a little and they sent him out a dlink router is this a sign of change for vm? Do they really listen to the customer or was there just none of them shitty super routers left i am confused but not bothered cause it was only my father inlaws and not mine..

does it do up to 50mb? wireless n, gigalan i mean i would love it all in one but mines can do the above

yes wireless-N and yes to gigabit switch.

However I have heard too many problems to be comfortable with it at the moment. TBH, I much prefer to using my server as a router, gives me the ultimate control and flexibility.
