My router is a DG834 v3 when I access the firewall settings page I cannot change any settings as the radio buttons are missing. I have read that if I load the latest firmware I can resolve this problem.
I am a bit of a novice regarding networking and need some advice regarding what settings to save if I do this. My wife works from home and has her PC LAN connected upstairs my laptop is wireless connected.
I will be in the doghouse :-( If I mess up her connection
I need to enable LAN through the firewall to connect my Technomate 6900 Super for CS.
If I load the latest firmware will this erase my settings? If it does what settings should I keep a record of to re-enter.

Had one of these and the update is simple and you can get it from

Answer

To make sure you have got everything correct you need to log into the router itself and and set it up with the details provided by your service provider.

If you have not done so you can do this by going into Internet Explorer and in the address bar at the top type in

192.168.0.1 & enter

User Name: admin
Password: password

These are for the router and not broadband. The ones I have provided are what they are normally set by netgear.

when you have done this you then can get to the settings on the router that you need to connect to broadband, the ones your ISP provided you with.

Make a note of these, if you don't have them or cannot remember them, before you update the firmware.

Download the firmware and do exactly as your asked to do and once updated reboot the router.

log back into the router and enter the information from your ISP, remembering to hit the update tab each time you change something.

In you firewall enter the IP address for each PC on the network as in following example but note you cannot use 192.168.0.1 on any of the other PC's. Your firewall will automatically include 192.168.0.1

Your PC: 192.168.0.2

Wifes: 192.168.0.3

Other: 192.168.0. 4

etc.

You can use any number in the 4th set: 2 to 255

You need to do this so the firewwall knows what PC's are allowed on your network.

You can find out what the IP addresses are by doing the follwing:

Start/Run and enter ipconfig /all (remember the space after g)

This will list all the IP addresses of the PC's connected to your network. It would be good to find these out anyway by doing this before you start so that you get used to and understand how to go about it.

Any problems just let us know and we will help you get to where you need to be.
