Hi Everyone

I am trying to set my mayes pc up on wifi through bt homehub and a net gear usb adaptor. I have it all connected but when it says its connected its not and when its says disconnected you can get online. When you go in to internet explorer it says it appears you are connected but wont display the web page. Its a win xp system and its bugging me. When you reset the adaptor it sometimes works. My mate is useless on a pc and wouldnt be able to keep resetting the adaptor. Does anyone have any ideas? The connection seems to send but not recieve?

Thanks in advance

it may be you need to give your network connection to access the internet. this is, router dependent, but involves you giving the IP of your pc "permission" to have access. let us know the router you are using. we should be able to help more then.

Hi Thanks for the help. The modem is bt vision old type and the adaptor is a net gear usb adaptor. The connection is fine on my ipod touch and the lap top but its xp thats doing my head in

Thanks again

i aint had chance to look at the instructions for your modem. but it sounds like you need to OK the connection to the net, via the router. I'll give it a crack to see if i can give you a solution. but it may not be till tomorrow i can post. rest assured if i can post today, i will.

ok cant find any"perfect" option. but go into the router 192.168.**.** usre:admin pass:admin make sure the ip of your pc( go to run, type:CMD then IPCONFIG) is listed in the in the "DCHP" info, on the LAN setup tab. save and reboot both modem and pc. lol the names may be, slightly, different. if so a bit of searching is in order.
failing that, get yourself a copy of "Network Magic", run it on all the gear on the network ans it will sort it out for you. i have not seen any "common" problems with this router. so i am inclined to think its setup, as opposed to a router problem. you may also find its worth checking if there is an "Firmware" updates for your model.
