hi

is there any free software that lets me use my laptops mouse an keyboard to control my pc?

i'm currenty using vnc, but my laptop screen can't keep up on games an when i use my media centre, so something were's i can turn the screen off on my laptop but still control my pc!

cheers

Can you just clarify what you are trying to do.

Is the game running on the media centre PC or the Laptop ?

If it is running on the media centre PC and you want to send input via the laptop, how are going to see the.

If they are close enough then why not just use the keyboard/mouse on the media centre PC ?

hi

i'm using xp on both pc an laptop.

i was thinking about getting a wireless keyboard but then thats another thing lying around my pc is connected to my tv vai hdmi the only game i really play is command an conquer and i use my pc as a media centre.

my laptop i use to surf the net and is on most of the time and i use it to remote control my pc if i'm watching my tv and using my pc at the same time.

at the mo if i play c@c i have to sit right in front of the tv.

so instead of me going out to buy another keyboard an mouse i would like to be able to use my laptop mouse an keyboard instead of a wireless one!

cheers

if you did it remotely, then the laptop would be your display.

Do you have XP Pro installed? If you do then you can use remote desktop, which may be a lot smoother than vnc.

But probaly the best thing to do would be get a wireless keyboard and mouse, unless you dont need the keyboard part. In that case, I would suggest an air mouse.

yeh i was trying to find something so that the laptop would not display the pc screen just control the mouse an keyboard, like a wireless keyboard an mouse.

I can't think of anything that will do just keyboard and mouse. All the remote control stuff I can think off also involves sending video to the controlling machine and even on a LAN the updates will just be fast enough.

The only thing I can think off is you have a dual head card and redirect the second (non-game) display to the laptop. Don't know if that is possible.

there is also netop, but is pretty expensive.

It will allow you to take control of the other machine and use its monitor for display whilst retaining your keyboard and mouse.

It might be cheaper to get USB extender. You then use the wireless kbd/mouse over usb.

You can get keyboards with trackpoint, roller ball or touch pad. No need for a seperate mouse.

They look interesting, if I had a media centre PC in the lounge, they would an option.

They cost to much compared to just a normal media centre remote.

true, but if you needed the full mouse functionality then they are ideal. I know they will not be for all, its just the route I would take.

Plus they look cool.

But do you look cool waving your arms around in the air looking like you are trying to swat a fly, LoL
