Hi folks,

I've currently got a satellite and cable receiver in the same room. If I want one connected to my local network I have it connected to an ethernet bridge. If I connected that bridge to a switch or a hub, then connected both receivers to the switch/hub, would both then be accessable? The would have different ip addresses but would both be able to access the internet at the same time?

Was thinking of something like this...don't want anything big.

Thanks!

cant u plug everything directly into the switch/router and skip the bridge? but as far as i know u shouldnt have any problems. its confusing as its hard to picture someone elses home setup.

is it basically...

|..Cable box
|....... |
|.... Bridge ---------- ............ Modem
|.......................... | ................. |
|........................ Switch ---------
|.......................... | ................. |
|.... Bridge ---------- ............ Other devices
|....... |
| Satellite box

ffs spent ages on that diagram and the formatting went to sh*t

LMAO...

I have...

Cable Modem > Wireless Router (upstairs)

Router > PC (port1) & Dbox2 (port2)

Dreambox1 > Wireless ethernet bridge
Dreambox2 > ???

I have to unplug the bridge and plug it into each dreambox when I want to talk to it, so I want them both connected to the bridge, without buying another bridge lol. So I was thinking about connecting a hub to the bridge and then each dreambox to the hub.

ahhh i see what ya doing lol. that may work but im always skeptical of mixing switches/hubs and bridges together directly. as a personal choice i would replace the bridge with a new wireless 4-port switch and plug the boxes into there. sorry mate, hopefully someone will have a clearer answer.....

try powerline ethernet... very cheap and a lot easier for people to get their heads around.

It will simplify what you are trying to achieve.

ive just had a look around and found a Belkin 5-port switch/hub that im not using (as ive converted everything to homeplugs/powerline :proud: lol) you can have that if u want, for all the help uve given in the cable section (and for reading over my work for me)...

trouble is finding the power plug for it PMSL, its a normal plug, and if u got a spare power plug at least u would be able to test your idea...... and if it works... a plug is cheaper than a complete hub heh!

will have another look round 2moro thou if u want it

Thanks for the offer m8, very kind, but hold of just now.

The wireless 4-port switch sounds like a good idea. I'll research that!

If I still need the hub I'll give you a shout!

Thanks!

hi i have a relook and wanted to connect it to the net but didn"t want to use hardwire eathernet so i aquired a Wap11 access-point in error.but after sum humming and harring i was informed to aquire a linksys WGA11-b gameing adapter wich i did.the wga11-b adapter dose not need any driver software as the driver is allready inside the adapter.providing you have wifi to begin with.just a thaught hope you sort it,

Ye I already have a wireless bridge which is pretty much the same as a gaming adapter but it only allows you to connect one ethernet device.

I've seen a 5-port wireless ethernet switch with combined access point which I'm going to get. Thanks for all the suggestions.

No probs Devilfish i hope the equipment your about to purches has the correct feakturs you are looking for, best ov luck hope ya get sorted.chow chow.skidy1
