Hi.

Got my Wii softmodded (4.3) using MOAMBs sticky guide, and my Essentials Passport USB HDD running with USB Config. Backed up my games (all originals) using USB Config, downloaded art, all looked great, even have Goldeneye working fine. I havent tried any of my Rock Band/Guitar Hero games yet, I read they might be a bit trickier?

Anyway, we've noticed when playing that the Wii will hang randomly, I think it's when it's accessing the HDD drive (loading usually). Sometimes it wont happen for an hour or two, sometimes as soon as I try to load a save or even when loading the game itself. Its happened on Mario Kart, Goldeneye, even Wii Sports.

Its brilliant when it works, not having to swap (scratch!) disks is really handy, but Id really like to iron out this last issue. Anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong or is it just one of those things?

Cheers

Edit: Its using IOS 249, USBConfig 62.

Just hung there on Lego harry Potter, before it went, I could hear a little loop of background music constantly repeating every few seconds. Sure enough, when he went into another room (and Wii had to load) it hung.

two things,

also i updated to loader 62,
but i had problems with the wii freezing???
i changed back to loadr 60 and everthing works fine......

Hi Buzzer,

I'll give it a go tomorrow. I'd made my mind up to mod the Wii over the Christmas, and finally got around to it last night. Just played Twilight Princess for 2 hours straight with no hang, and mini me is playing MS Bros now, so I'll get him to bed then try in the morning. Not sure how to set my IOS or check it, I'll have a look through the site later and see can I work it out.

@ Andyfuk, yeah, main reason I wanted USB loader was to not have to scratch the orig discs. Modding really for homebrew for me, cos a) I thought you had to mod to use USB loader (not just backup game ISOs, and b) I saw you can play the Atari 2600 games on Wii homebrew. Wanna get me some Kaboom! going on.

Cheers

Ive always used Usb Loader Gx,you can still download covers, add dol files, and play emulators like Snes,N64 Megadrive etc
Might try usb config one day but always stuck with GX cos its so simple,

WiiFlow 2.2 for me everytime, but like you all say, everyone has their own preferences

Hi,

Not really a matter of preference for the loader for me, tbh: it was the one referred to in MOAMBs tut, so I just used that. Took ages for me to get it going (my fault, formatted drive wrong), so now I know how to do this one, I'll probably stick with it!

I was a GUI whore with MAME: GameEx,Arcadia, you name it I tried it. Maybe I'm settling down with age?

Cheers

Hi Buzzer,

Changed to 6.0 but still hanging.

I've had a good look around but I'm not sure what to do. In my mmmconfig it says
AutoLoadIOS=236
so I'm guessing that's where i specify m222. i don't have m222, but there is a file called cIOS222[38]-v4.wad in the wad folder

Should I change my mmmconfig to
AutoloadIOS=222

Sorry for being so dumb, terrified of bricking the Wii after getting so far with this!

Cheers

Update all your iso via modmii then select m222 in options on cfg loader think you press button 1 then save changes

I had very similar problems to you in that when I load up configurable usb the screen goes blank and we have to restart the wii.

I have now disabled the virtual cd drive on my wd hard drive and it seems to be working better.

Connect the drive to your pc, go into my computer and right click on the virtual drive to open it. There should be software in there to disable the vcd drive which will stop it trying to load.

I'm only guessing that when connected to the wii the hard drive still tries to load virtual drive.

Ignore this as my daughter has just started playing the wii and it still freezes :--(

Re-format the Hard Drive a couple of times , it worked for me,
just back up your games to the PC first

suppose its worth a go, I've been having same problem and after trying different CFG's and even a different HDD etc it still happens. I'll let you know

Nope, still no joy. Ive used ModMii to get the cIOS, reformatted the drive, still hangs. It always seems to be when accessing the drive (looping music or loading areas, etc), so I dont think changing the loader will help. Can somone post their working cios m222 (and m223 for RB The Beatles) if possible, please: I thinnk form reading around that's where my issue is, but there's so many versions around i've no idea which one to use.

EG on another thread, Digidude posted a link to his confirmed working c222. I dl'ed it, followed his instructions but got an error when I tried to run it in homebrew. I dont think I got the MMM quite right when I first modded, so although I can get games on USB and loading, its annoying to have to keep restarting the Wii. Typical, even with a great tutorial I still manage to bork things up! Dont drink and mod, people!

Hi Buzzer,

Tried that: no luck. The hermes loader needs to dl from web to install (wont let me extract from the files, even when I put them in the iso folder on SD root) and my wifi is shit where the Wii is in the house.

Tried Wannikoko (which does let you install the wad from SD), downloaded wad using NUSD a couple of times, but I keep getting an error (ret= -1), which I think means the file is corrupt. I dont hink it is, I reckon I made a balls of my mod, and it doesnt recognise it or something. A good example of this is that when I modded, it kept booting to MMM and stopping. Now, if I have bootmii on the SD card, it locks up on boot at black screen so I took bootmii off totally. I know i did something wrong (probably cos I formatted the card at each step instead of overwriting like I should have).

I still have a copy of Indy Jones 1: can I just redo the whole softmod (following MOAMBs guide properly this time)?. Or cos I have homebrew installed, can I skip the Indy pwns bit and give my mate back his disc? I still have my USB drive with the games on it so thats the real time consuming part already done, I'm just wondering if I redo it I'll brick the Wii?

Sorry for being such a lemon: my brother saw what I've gotten done so far and wants me to do his Wii. I told him to feck off, doing my own is killing me without bricking his brand new black Wii!

you only need the indy game to install the homebrew channel,

you could use modmii, that'll basically do the rest for you....

Think I have a result here.

After a lot of failed attempts and scouring the web, I found a tut on another site (can I post a link here?) that i think might have fixed the problem.

Basically, I couldnt use the previously posted links to cios updaters cos they kept failing to connect. It was recommended that I unplug all gamecube controllers and memory cards. I did, and was able to online update my 236 that cios are based on, and get the newest versions. Before I did that today, I just got in the post Donkey Kong Country, and it kept hanging trying to load after finishing the first level. I've been playing it now for over an hour jumping in and out of levels to force loads, and its still going.

Still not quite there with the Beatles/Guitar Hero games, but I think it's just a matter of trying the different cios til I find a stable one.

Hope I'm not speaking too soon!

thanks everyone for all the help.

Think I have it sorted (eventually!)

I got a 500gb drive from Lidl yesterday, and thought it wouldnt work cos it has one of those double USB connectors.

It was preformatted as NTFS, I didnt reformat, just used Wii Backup Manager to transfer the games over. Downloaded USB CFG v6.0 and put that on as well.

Booted up Wii, and at first it says No WFSB partition deteced. Just pressed A twice (to choose the USB Drive) and bingo!

Left it playing Beatles Rock Band for a few hours last night, played MadWorld for well over an hour today, all seems well.

Hope this helps someone else?

did u put the games in iso format or wbfs on the ntfs disk?

i'm having random crashes also and dont know what to do :(
