Sorry about the title but am going to struggle slightly trying to explain the dilemma.

A mate of mine has run a website selling replacement rollers for shower doors, making a good living from it for the last 10 years. For the first 2 years he had no competition and was the first hit on Google search.
He never kept up with the times and started to slip down the rankings partially due to the fact his website wasn't mobile friendly. He now has 2 websites, the original non friendly, and the friendly, hope I got them the right way round. The mobile friendly site is even further down the ranks than the original. He has twice paid for people to "improve" his ranking but has basically just threw a few hundred quid away. Forgive my lack of knowledge here but they use wordpress and he isn't savvy with it and struggles to upload images of new stock.

He has been approached by this service, who have offered to build him a new site. They are also based in India. They don't want payment until it's finished and he is happy with it. I noticed some grammar and spelling mistakes on their site but as English isn't their native tongue, all in all they haven't done too badly. One testimonial in England and it seems legit, the lady is a floral designer and updates frequently on Facebook.

My mate is concerned that they may be able to add some code which could prove harmful to him. If someone in the know would be so kind to look at their site and give an opinion I would be very grateful.

To be perfectly honest I'd stay away from it if your not 100% sure. The ''genuine' floral person might just be planted to make them seem legit. You could also look them up on the internet to see if they have a bad history.

If he's not tech savvy and want no fuss web building/hosting then I'd suggest Wix, Wix have a easy to use designer with loads of templates that he/you could use and once finished they can host it without fuss. You can build the site even before paying anything! Only downside with wix is that they can't host .co.uk domain names :-(. Wix will also help with site rankings depending on the package you pay for. I'm not saying that Wix is the only site out there, there are sites with a similar way of doing things, so might be worth looking about.

Was that an intentional pun? :proud: She's definitely legit with a longtime facebook history and her website shows the name of the site designer.
He wants to retain the look and feel of his existing sites, ecommerce, but needs a more user friendly format. In all honesty if someone could give a definite answer as to whether or not they could enter malicious code to compromise him, I would suggest he gives it a try.

I've re-read your first post and you say he has a friendly site. Before going down the web design route again, find out why the new site is not doing so well. Might be a good reason, might be the people he paid to improve his site rankings didn't do a good job? Might be something easy to fix.

As to your question, can people Inject code into html for bad reasons.... hell yes! Are the Indian web designers he is talking to liable to do it. I dunno. I, personally, wouldn't take the chance especially since its an eCommerce site. That's my opinion thou
