I've just gotten back in to web design and wondering what programs people use. I have notepad++ and dreamweaver is not really an option.

Any suggestions welcome.

Notepad++
I use this for coding php, amongst others...

It's the best for me anyway.

I have absolutely 0 graphical skill css, etc. so tend to hire out graphics, css to places like Upwork

Most hosting companies offer Wordpress as a simple 'click-install'. It is simple to use and fast.

Without some idea of what you want to achieve it is difficult to know whether it would be your best choice.

Do you want a blog or an e-commerce site? Something else?

as hh said need to know what you are looking for. If just a few page website try Xara web design
but why is dreamweaver not an option

I'm creating a 8-9 page website with a blog page and contact page with googlemaps for directions. I already have a joomla page but want to design this page not using joomla want to get away from the CMS type websites as its overkill for what i need. I preferably want to create using a combination of html/css/javascript and PHP. Might consider using bootstrap.

Dreamweaver, well the cost of it is prohibitive!

Just to say I've gone down the dreamweaver route.

Thanks for all the help!

Anyone else put off by the cost of Dreamweaver could check out Open Source alternatives such as Quanta+ or Kompozer.

Just out of curiosity, do people use dreamweaver because its easy (i.e align move items etc.).

Is it not be better to have a deeper understanding of the coding process and know where your code is placing items.

saying that lol, I use notepad++ as it will change the font colour when i miss things in PHP, and would probably find using a text editor a nightmare!

Also for those interested in web design CODE ACADEMY is the best website for learning.

In answer to your question Mick, I think you still need some coding skills for dreamweaver. I've been out of coding HTML and CSS for a while now and very rusty and a tool like dreamweaver is helping me regain that knowledge! I Have signed up to that coding site you link and i think it will help massively!

Thanks for the programs Him Her Looking at both kompozer and quanta+. As an alternative!

Oh and if anyone knows how to make a slideshow in Dreamweaver, then please put me out my misery lol!

I know, that is the problem with these hobbies lol... you don't do it for a while and you get out of practice!

Code Academy is brilliant, the site will improve your skills immensely!
