Ive got the correct files from vu-hd.com and a EZ-USB FX2LP CY7C68013A USB Development board. I have installed all the SW but I'm not 100% in which points I'm soldering/connecting the jtag on to the vu solo2.

I've enclosed a pic20160504_122103.jpgcan some please tell me if the highlighted yellow are right or wrong because I just get "Disconnected" in Broadband Studio 3

Just blown it up mate

The square solder point is ground next to it SDA then SCL then 3.3v

Dont forget to use the latest BBS and run it on a XP machine ive never got a win 7 machine to connect.

Your lonrison box may have a Toshiba chip so try toshiba and samsung files to connect with.

The first pic is from the vu-hd.com website (box has that sticker on it0 it's showing were your meant to jtag on a vusolo2 but I cant seem to find that. The 2nd pic is a close up of the points I soldered to Untitled.png20160504_132803.jpg

the pic you posted from some guide is of the full size solo2

Just found this suggesting these are the jtag points circled in red

I've soldered some kaynar wire and attached it to the jtag but whats pishing me off is the drivers for the jtag. 1 minute it's fine then say I turn it off or reboot the laptop it says cannot not recognise. I'm on XP on the laptop

I had a few issues like that with early bbs software, i did a reinstall of xp sp3 then installed netframework 3.5 then 4.0 and no more issues.

I put the jtag and vusolo2 back on the pc windows 7 and it wouldn't connect so I hit the small RST reset button and it's now connected.
I then followed the vu-hd.com guide ;-
Select “Flash Explorer” (2 in picture)
Select “Samsung K9F1G08U0A” in the type field (3 in picture)

But once I select the “Samsung K9F1G08U0A” I get an error message in the bottom of the pop up box in red;-

MAKER ID RETURNED FROM THE FLASH: 98 DOES NOT MATCH

now im knackered , I've no idea what that means

Thanks Ferret for all the help it's greatly appreciated.

I added the tosh xml's but when I refreshed and selected the
vusolo2-flash by jtag.bin
or the
solo2_bootloader.bin
I get

"The starting offset is in bad block. The operation has been terminated"
I also says "The board strapped for little indian mode"

So close but also it's so close to the wheelie bin !!

Yep most solo 2 end up with a bad block so it chip replacement sadly.

ok thanks for that, do I buy like for like chipwise or can I buy another type ?.Looks like I'll be blowing the dust off the rework

Honestly dont know mate, when ive had the misfortune to need to replace the nand ive gone like for like.

I take it the Tosh chip is harder to come by ?

Its looking that way , I'll try find out if I can replace with something easier to get hold of, thanks for all the help Ferret , top service

So it got me thinking about this Tosh chip. It comes up with bad blocks when trying to write a new bootloader but , when you erase it it fully erases with broadband studio.
Someone else had the same problem;-
https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/vu-solo2-receivers-633/422366-how-jtag-solo2-clone.html
so is the chip knackered ? I doubt it , I know one thing they are very robust so it might just be broadband studio not been able to tackle the tosh chip.

I still have an old UP48a in the loft so I'm going to erase/ check/ write to the tosh and see if it works back in the box. Tbh I should have done it this way but I thought I'd get away with jtagging and there was also the thought of entering the loft ,,,now thats bad

Its more that bbs can not deal with the bad sector correctly, ive read the chips will reprogram in an external programmer which is why some people request full nand dumps,

Well I finally got round to replacing the TSOP and reflashed the boot loader and got PLI installed but a slight hitch.

When I took the box apart I bagged up all the screws. I've just emptied the bag and there's a small 2 prong black jumper fell out the bag and I've not a clue were it's come from off the box mobo. I've searched high and low all over the mobo... any idea's ? or is it nothing to do with the box ?

I dont remember a jumper mate.
