You guys use the flash for Epg & Picon as the flash is so large, or do you still send it to USB/HDD ?
Im used to limited space so always used USB

:)

I always use a usb or hdd but im now wondering if i can put epg/picons on flash, iv got over 300mb free

Sent from my HTC One

On my dm800se I just use the USB on the back, that way I never see it or have any other need for it. :)

flash is fine as long as you have enough spare

I always read along the lines that the Nandflash should just store the main image alone with plugins and EPG and Picons etc.. should go to either a USB or Hard Drive as the constant reading of the main flash is not a good idea, I know for the EPG its just read the once and then stored in the RAM and used from there so no more reading from the nandflash just the once on receiver bootup. where as picons are read constantly on every channel change.

Maybe its just an old wives tale from the earlier E2 receivers and with Flash memory now becoming more common especially in hard drives this wont matter as much anymore, And at the end of the day a USB drive uses Flash memory so whats the difference

On my Duo2 i load all plugins, epg and picons to nand flash.

Why have the extra space if your not going to use it. Ive heard it say it slows the boxes down but no way does it slow my duo 2 it like a friggin rocket.

My thinking is it would run the box faster having not to read the usb, as you say whats the point in the extra flash if your not going to use it

Thanks Guys :)
just trying to gather up some information, doing lots of searching on this receiver :)

you have had your dreambox a long time m8 you will miss it :)

I dont think I will mate
Since the last real backup I made last July I've not really been able to do anything with the box,
could chuck it at the wall or stamp on it at times lol
Served me well though

soon as I put an image on it, 1 or 2 plugins, thats it memory full, now I dont know if thats just the images that are maxed out now or something is stuck on internal flash that shouldn't be there ?? Who knows

I do know I will have a new box to play with :)

its not the box its the images mate

try installing a fresh image & install a plugin with telnet

downloads lots & wipes memory out lol

You want me to stamp on the box don't you ;) lol

:)

not at all ye gotta get stuck in & beat it pmsl

the joy of the hobby

I've always put picons on a usb and my epg download onto the hard disk. I have read that picons should be stored on the flash as a slow usb flash could affect the box especially when channel hopping but the skin I use has been modified by me so that the picon is only ever displayed on the info bar so that will be the only time it needs to access the usb flash drive.

thats true since i changed from having my picons on a usb flash to the flash on the box i have noticed a massive difference in speed. before the box would lag for a second or 2 every 10-15 times u changed the channel now no lag at all.
i noticed the box seems quicker doing other things too.

Were do you store the picons on flash

root in picons folder but im not certain. not at home at the moment but when download from feeds i just click save to internal flash.

Im using 2 sets of picons, but if i can get the virgin picons of the feeds then all is good
