lonrisun clone vs Sunray clone vs the rest.

hey guys

i have a lonrisun clone and have set up many for others. Im going to be purchasing a few more boxes soon and i just want to know which type is the best clone. should i stick with lonrisun clones or buy sunray clone or another type?

On a basis of Team image support id go with the Sunray due to ramiMaher supporting them.

Very quick to release patched versions of newly released group images.

I agree with Ferret, Sunray release very regular patched drivers and/or patched images.

Not much, if any, support from others that I know of.

I know it's possible to get clones that accept original images and whilst that maybe true it's uncertain for how long they will accept original images for.

i take it so that the sunray boxes dont have to have the flash updated like the lonrisun ones do since Sunray release very regular patched drivers and/or patched images..

also are the sunray boxes as reliable and bug free as the lonrisun?

My Sunray box doesn't need flash update (not sure one exists to be honest) as the boxes accept the patched drivers and/or patched images.

I think the new ones you get now (known as v2 - not sure if there is a v3 yet) I have no issues with. I believe the v1 (now obsolete I'd have thought) did have problems.

The problem with Sunray is that there is, to the best of my knowledge, no easy recovery method if things go wrong but if you use patched images for Sunray then it's doubtful you would need to worry about unlike other boxes. Someone on sunray support forum did manage to get flash chips for his Sunray because he flashed with image for Lonrison from vu-hd website instead of sunray support forum, dreamoem.

Maybe just check with supplier you can use images from sunray support website dreamoem even if box claims it can accept original images it's that little bit safer to continue to use patched drivers/images.

@alankellyeire how,s it going man if your buying in boxes .Go with sunrays solo2 v2 these can run xbmc/kodi which is nice little bonus .And as was stated by other members great support for the sim2team.

Don,t waste your money on lonrisun boxes anymore as the sim2 team have showen us all what proper support is all about now .

And plenty of images to back this up .And flash chip replacement can be done on sunrays 100% should have stated this yesterday in another thread {sorry about that ketmp}.

Sunrays solo2s all the way for me now .but for myself i,am waiting to see if sunrays v3s turn up and if this is true . i,ll buy one of these now in a heartbeat as it,s a nice feature to have.

As i,am sure i,ll need this in the future as i,am a 2 time bricker :Wave::Wave:.

Did you see my thread here. Could this be v3 or just v2 which has a newer bootloader or something to accept original images? Maybe even a clone of a clone?

ketmp no not that .this was not from sunray who said this. over here one of mates is chinese and we ring suppliers in china to find out whats stock they have and they told him about this box in december .

As we buy in a lot of stock from china every year and we been trying to ring suppliers all week for info still waiting to see this .

Isn't xbmc able to run on the lonirun box. I have the adddon on mine. Even though its no good cuz my internet sucks. I never heard of Kofi before but from what I can tell from Google its similar to xbmc.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm definitely going to get a sunray over lonrisun now. I just have to find a decent supplier.

One more question I noticed there is sunray solo2 mini available also and they are cheap. Are these as good as the sunray solo 2 and do they accept the same images?
Or could you guys recommend a box cheap box. I just want it for a spare when I'm repairing a box so the person isn't without while I'm sorting there box.

Could ye recommend one. I got my lonrisun boxes from Ali ex. Would u recommend me getting a Sunray from there also?

I'm not aware of a sunray solo2 mini. There is a sunray solo mini (no 2 in name) which only has one tuner and very few images available for it.

I got my sunray from aliexpress.

Kodi is the new name for XBMC I thought although most still refer to it as XBMC.

It's Chinese New Year so most if not all of the suppliers over there will be closed. I wouldn't expect a reply until next week.

any update on this whether there is a V3 coming out or out already?

I think it will likely be end of this week or next week before they open again and then they'll have to catch up with all messages and orders during the time they've been celebrating new year.

Sunray's generally have one or more of the following:-

1. mini usb port on back
2. sunray hologram sticker on back
3. sticker on top of box mentioning visiting dreamoem.com website.

If you have none of them then it's not a Sunray. Instead either a Lonrison or Dragonworth clone (most common is Lonrison).

I have the Lonrison then, but I cant find a good image, they all freeze and make me restart manually, where can I find good ones?

It probably not an image issue as such. If you have a v4 flash update then you can get more upto date images from here. When doing a flash update, do not restore from any previous settings as sometimes this can be an issue.

I tried them all 3 from there, the OpenVix one freezes when i select a channel.
The blackhole one freezes when I search for channels and after that press Favorites or Satellites or anything.
The OpenATV one freezes somewhere, I forgot where.
They all freeze, just different places.
But all three however, scan for example till 10% and then dont want to anymore.
Did I brick my box?
How can I fix this?

Providing you can still flash an image then it's not bricked (a bricked box is no display on front - just standby light on).

So assuming you can still do stuff within menus, etc (and the current date/time is correct) then it's not bricked and I would recommend flashing image without setting restore with whatever image you prefer (mine is OpenVix) and create a thread with your symptoms and we can try and help you as it would be extremely off-topic to continue in this thread. Plus you would hopefully get more of a response with your own thread detailing problems and what you did before it froze.
