I've been using black hole images since i got my ultimo and very happy with it
just wondering what the biggest differences are between the "vix" and "black hole" images
does vix have the tuner server option too ?

That is one thing Vix does not have is the Tuner server option, Although the new Vix 2.4 is so far looking pretty impressive.

Just try it m8, if you don't like it then reflash back to your preferred image. Personally myself I prefer VIX image.

I have used ViX from day one on my Duo and I like for various reasons but never tried BH image so couldnt compare the both. Should try it one day but not really seen or heard anything about it... Perhaps someone could post some screenshots?

I have tried BH AND VIX.. I prefere Blackhole atm.

I guess it is down to personal preference.

One person likes vix the other like bh. Try the vix and if your not happy reflash to bh simples!

Its possible that a lot of Vix users switched to BH recently due to the instability of Vix 2.3, But with the release of 2.4 however a lot of those BH users have now switched back as it does seem pretty stable compared to the last release infact its a whole new image altogether and looks great.

BH is written exclusively for VU only and has always been good if your looking at an image thats close to VU's own original image then BH is it.

i like the tuner server option on the black hole so i might stick to the B.H. for now, i might try the latest vix version when i have time to mesh about and see if i like it.

Dont blame you thijss, curruntly running the latest BH on my Uno and its been rock solid but i do like the new Blindscan feature on Vix 2.4 it really does put the BH one to shame. They have a lot of catching up to do

for those who want a similar feature to the tuner server option in the OpenViX image there is a plugin you can use that allows you to stream a tuner from one E2 receiver to another.

for example i install the plugin on my Uno enter the details for the Ultimo which is the "donor receiver" from which i will stream a tuner and it will scan my network then create a new set of bouquets directly under the original ones, to stream from the ultimo you just click on one of these bouquets and it will stream the channel including all epg data and encryption status etc.

now i'm out of bandwidth and cant upload the plugin due to this poxy web n walk dongle but you can google remotestreamconvert

What's this blind scan?

Basically for feedhunters and maybe the odd frequency that turns up on a sat one day and is gone the next, Blindscan will allow you to scan all Tp's in either 1,4,8 etc.. mhz steps which means you fully scan a whole satellites transponder frequency range.

The only Blindscan capable in the VU range are the Uno & Ultimo

on my vu+duo its blackhole for me but i have to say i have a vu solo clone on a [email protected] running vix 2.3 and so far its flawless. regards mdt

When i first got my Solo i used Vix 2.3 which i really liked, had some really nice touches like the now and next when looking at channel list, however unfortunately i had to switch to BH because the VIX image was just too unstable, i was getting the green screen almost on a daily basis. Very happy with the BH image and it is extremely stable on my box but still prefer some of the features on VIX so may change back if there is a new release.

I have found the vix do not like the HD Glass skin

the black hole has the now and next too when your browsing through the channellist.
sofare i didn't hear anything about the vix image that would make me change from b.hole yet
but still when i have a free day to try it out i will.
thanks for the replies lads

ViX has had that ability for a very long time.

you can also use left / right buttons either side of the ok button to bring up a now and next for any channel you want by scrolling through them, without zapping away from the channel your currently watching.

in fact you can have it set up to show 3 events in the channel list so now, next, later. skin dependant.

is working for me on both b.h. image 1.7.3 + 1.7.4.0 when in your channellistings the now and next epg info is in the right bottom of the screen
you will need to have the epg loaded in some way (rytec or open tv epg loader)

I think this is a little misleading i think what was meant is on the Vix image if you press the OK button while viewing a channel the channel info bar pops up at the bottom of the screen, If you then move left or right with the arrow keys the channel info bar moves to either the next or previous channel and shows whats on now and next. This is something that is not available in any blackhole image.

I know what thijss26 is getting at if you press down or up arrow key you enter the channel list menu with a mini screen and thus you can navigate each channel which shows you now and next info, Not quite the same as how Vix have it preset.
