I bought a Duo at ebay and thought it was an original one.
But now I am not so shur which box it is and which image is the correct one.

It has no stickers on the back and nowhere.
So, how can I tell if its a clone?
And which image should i be using for the box?
I read about v2 and v3, but how can I tell?

I am really a rookie with vu+ and need help.

Tried a couple of USB Sticks and severy images, but none seem to boot up correctly.
I get some error messages on the serail (putty) but I cannot see what they trie to tell me...

Relly puzzled with this box...

Flashing seems to be okay:

Well you could try a V2 and V3 Ferrari image as those will not hurt and original box.

Or you can post a high detailed picture of the mobo and ill try to identify it. Clone or original.

At the side of the card reader you'll see the four pin cable there is an upright chip to the right of it. I think that is a clone security chip. Need a picture of the side of it to see what version it is.

Thanks for the help!
So you think its a clone?
I will try such an image when I find one.
Unfortunatly I am not able to download here although I have the needed 5 posts.
But I will wait...

Okay, I tried the Image:
BlackHole-2.1.0.bm750_usb_Ferrari_V3
downloaded from this Forum.

I used an old 128MB USB Stick, tried a 1GB and a 8GB (brand new) Stick.

The results could be seen in the log file I added to this post.

I have no clue how to fix this.
Maybe a 10ton Hammer could do the trick... :Angryfire

!!PLEASE HELP!!

100% its a clone.

You could try reprogramming the security chip but youll need the appropriate rs232 adapter and cable.

Did it boot an image when you got it and what does it say on the front screen Starting ? Or just a red light ?

There is a rs232 Adapter in the Box (naturally..?).
Mine is a WSS7000 D-SUB - Rev. 1.2 20091116
I have a standard serial cable and a Cisco with adapters. (With an USB "Dongle")

It had an Image, it was (i think) the Original 4.x.

Now it starts with "Starting".
Sometime with the red light, sometimes without, it depends on the Image that tries to boot, I think.
With the BlackHole tht display says: "VU+ Duo" for a second and then reboots..

Can i state the obvious here put in a paypal claim if reprogramming the security chip does not help its looking like hardware.

I ask before and you never replied when you got it di it boot into a image ?

I am sorry if I did not answer all your questions, maybe I did not get you right because I am not a native speaker. Sometimes we miss out some things because we do not understand...

As I got it and first booted it up it seemed to be okay. Watched TV with it!
It came up with (as far as I remember) the Original Image in from 2012. I looked at the date of the image in one of the menus and thought "this is way too old" and tried to flash an image with an usb-stick like a friend of mine (he has a VU+ Duo2) told me ("this is soooooo easy" he said).
With his box its not a problem to simply put the stick into the box and flash it....it works perfectly.

After my first attempt suddenly the box did not come up and then my journey began...

The german boards give no support for a clone box.
Although I just want to use it what its made for - watch TV!

Your help is really appreciated!

Can you remember the name of the image ?

And when you flashed it to start with the first time what image did you flash. I need all the details of that image or it is going to be hard to help any further.

Okay, this is quickly answered.
First Image I used to flash:
vuplus-image-bm750-20141128141840_vti_8-0-0_usb
I updated (at least I tried) the bootloader as stated in the documentations I found:
duo_cfe_3_0_usb.zip

You have been using original images on your clone and tried to flash an original bootloader.

Its still not clear to me if your box has been hit by a time bomb or not ?

Does it still read the usb when trying to flash ?
After flashing does the box display just RED Light or the message starting or something else ?

Oh, ah, uff, what is a time bomb?
What would the symptoms be?

The box does everything as it should while flashing.
1- Reading USB
2- Programming
3- "Remove USB and reboot to finish"

After the reboot it does what I documented in the putty.txt file.
After flashing I can see "starting" in the display, and thats it...

But it does not display anything on the HDMI.
On the console you can see what I posted in the putty.txt file

What should I do?

I think we are getting near to the conclusion!

I dont mate your flashing the correct images and there is no display, i think you need to reflash the security chip as a first step with the cable and adapter that came with the box. Good news is the box is not bricked but im concerned you tried to flash a original cfe.

Try This

https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/download-vu-plugins-582/370095-download-security-chip-update.html

Just a short update...
Okay, tried to reflash the Security Chip with no luck.
The renewas does not do anything after I opened the update file.
It simply does not begin to flash.
I tried the USB2Serial Adapter and an old PC with a native RS323 Port.
Putty works fine on both, but the flashing will not start.
I think the serial cable has a problem.
Next week I will get an other cable and try again...
