Hi Garry Breezer, long time user of dreamboxes but stupidly bought a vu+duo clone v2!!! I think you know where I'm going with this ... what images actually work properly!!! Dreamboxuk image is very good and stable but no longer supported but the autotimer gives a greens screen of death.

Blackhole doesn't work btw, constantly locks the box

Strangely, dreamboxuk does not work on a friends box but blackhole does and vice versa with mine ... wish I'd bought an original :(

Does replies to my own thread count as posts? Cos apparently I need 5 posts before I can download the 155 vix image.

Been using Vix image here. Everything working fine including autotimer.

What version do you use skronk? The one on the vu+duo's website is old and crashes quite a lot. The 155 version here I can't download because you're allowed one download a day. Problem is, the browser comes up with "to help protect your security...." and then when you select ok and download it says your daily limit is reached! Would have liked to try the 155 as I miss the autotimer badly. Tend to use the vu+ duo to record everything in the front room and then watch via DM800 in backroom over network but have to manually record programs on a daily basis.

I use Vix 3.1 version 600

Good call, seriously regretting ever buying this! May stick it on ebay and get an original :)

Be careful with Vix 2.x Images they are no longer supported so theres no feeds live for plugins etc and there are reports of boxes hanging on boot since the update server was changed by OE Alliance for the VIX images.
I was running a VIX 2.4 Build 155 and I didnt personally have the above issue, I have now gone back up to a patched VIX V3 image now ( a clone safe image with older drivers). So far all good no crashes, plugin feeds etc all working, running BBC Iplayer, Icefilms and 1 Channel plugins.
I previously had problems with softrcam crashes and box lockups with an older VIX 3.0 image so I reverted back to 2.4 Build 155, but over the last 3 days i'm back on a 3.0 image.
Stick with the clone theyre fine once you get your head around which images you can run, i.e: clone safe and which ones you cannot.
Why would you want to buy an original VU DUO now ? Theyre coming to end of life..The new range of VU recievers is here.

Tried version 3.0 image (clonesafe) but had no joy at all, locked on regular basis. Have a few friends with clones and we all run different images because we all have different problems!!! To be honest, really like the dreamboxuk image because I can run it on the DM800se and DM800 (x2) that I have in the house and everything looks consistent but it's the autotimer I need so was looking to try the 155 build pretty much for this facility only. If only I could get the autotimer working on the deramboxuk image then I would be a happy chappy :)

Regarding sticking with clones, I don't think I'll consider the vu range again because of the uncertainty of future images. That's why I'm considering getting an Amiko Alien box in to have a look at. Original and dual tuner for £150 sounds pretty good to me.

unless andy has made some changes this last week that i dont know of ViX 2.3 and 2.4 should still have full access to the image plugin feeds ( although they wont forever ), it's just the update server and image gits for these images that have been deleted.

well good luck with those, E2 is still no where near as stable on the alien boxes as it is with the broadcom based boxes. these boxes are cheap for a reason/

Fair comment ... just like to play :)

Hence the reason for purchasing the vu+ duo in the first place, but fed up of 8 months of not being able to update. The promised patch never arrived and although I know they now have a hardware patch, getting hold of one is another story :(

Anyone got any thoughts on the new Technomate Twin?

i presume youve been on the ferrari vu duo forums HERE as this is dedicated to the so called support for the vu clones...post there m8..

well unfortunately thats what happens when people are sucked into the false economy of buying clones.

agree with pheonix....no no to clones...yes to originals...lol, i bought one by mistake, luckily i managed to get rid of it asap for a small loss...

If you always want to be able to run the latest images and genuine plugins as soon as they come out, then yes there is no real alternative other than original boxes.
Clones will always be caught up in the cat and mouse game between the manufacturer releasing anti-clone measures to protect their investment and clone teams trying to circumvent the new measures. So you will be stuck on older images or more specifcally clone safe older drivers..as much of the anti-clone measures in the Dreamboxes and VU recievers of recen comes in the form of newer drivers containing clone protection.
Dreambox clones have been in the same boat for a long time, with only the A8P SIM currently able to run the latest images without any modification.
To be fair though the only reason the clone market is so succesful is beacuase of the ridiculous prices orginal equipment is priced at, if manyfacturers priced their products sensibly people would be less inclined to buy clones. Increased competition and the clone market have had an effect you can see more realistic pricing of recent on satellite recievers.
Personally i've had a great experience with clones over the years and never lost money infact quite the opposite, I not only saved hundreds of pounds over the years on the clones i've owned (Dm500C, Dm500S DM600, DM800HD, DM800HD PRO, DM800SE, VU DUO), I managed to sell on my older DM800HD (non SE) clones of at a profit when I upgraded to a 800SE and DUO.
I will however say Ferarri Team are probably one of the biggest reasons why VU clones have so many issues, hardware wise and software support wise. The Ferarri DM800 clones were rubbish as well..It was only when the SIM2 team came onto the scene and started making better quality clones , glitch free Rev M tuners, and the Sunray 800SE clones backed up with software and image support from RamiMaher, MFaraj etc that DM800 clones became reliable. Ferarri team have a track record of fake claims, poor hardware, missed deadlines on patches etc..They also dont like criticism on their forum and are quick to ridicule, bann members, delete posts that they dont agree with,,

me too, tried BH 1.7.9 but the media player interface is terrible compared to VIX imho.
BH and Vix both have their own good features so its just down to personal preference.
